I am in the market for a reloading scale have decided to go with a balance scale for the improved sensitivity. I would like to hear CGN's opinions on balance scales, such as what scales you use and recommend and what scales you would give to your enemies.

Balance scales can be very accurate but slow if you are weighing every charge. I did use an RCBS scale at one time and an old Herter's. Then went high tech with an digital RCBS then last year stepped up again to an AccuLab Vic 123. The AccuLab will weight to .02 gr. One kernal of Varget weighs .04 gr.

Most of the commercial magnetic dampened beam balance scales are quality units, that is Lyman, RCBS, Redding, Ohaus, Hornady etc.
The Lee, looks pretty cheap to me, but never having used one, I can't comment on how it works, and that's the important part, and we as shooters should no better than to pick on something by appearance alone. That's a politicians game.
Electronic scales, are I understand, faster, however, for a guy that reloads rifle only, unless you do a lot of shooting, and want to weight every charge, a beam balance can work fine, and they are not as slow as some would have you believe..
Me, I use an RCBS 505.

Good selection of all sorts of digital and balance-beam scales; I use the i401 and the i5500 for all kinds of tasks. The i401 will measure down to 0.05gn very nicely, and stabilizes quickly if you don't jiggle the table.

I had a lyman beam scale, couldn't use it accurately to save my life (entirely user error). I went digital after my first batch of wild velocity fluctuations.

The Lee scale is crap. I personally like Lee's products but the scale sucks. So hard to zero and it sticks all the time you never know if it's working correctly. I've gone digital now and love it.

I have the Lee safety scale and I personally like it a lot. Very senstive and easy to zero.

Takes some getting used to but I take my time while loading (a lot of time) so it works for my small batches.
