I need some reticle help how many mrads is a duplex reticle

This is for my hunting rifle. Eventually I will put a mildot scope on it as that is what I have on my 308. For now I'm running a Bushnell 4200 with duplex reticle. Is there a way that I can figure out how many mils down the reticle goes from fine to thick? I guess I could figure it out by looking at the scoped side by side bit was wondering if anyone knows off hand? I'm using strelok ballistic app, does anyone know of other apps that would have duplex reticle as an option.

I know the best way is to see for myself at what range I would use the transition as a holdover but I just got this rifle and sighted it in and I don't have time before the season starts to shoot it at farther distances.it's a 7mm Mag shooting 140gr Barnes at 2980fps if that helps.
 
As per a lot of scopes that just have fine or duplex crosshairs, the instruction manual is not specific on this key information.

Best way is to treat yourself to a couple of hours at the range and 'map' it yourself at 100 metres. You could alternatively phone Bushnell customer service who may be able to forward a chart. I have looked in the past, there is nothing on their website.

Ya I think bench time is going to be the only way. I think what I will do tomorrow is put a piece of paper 23" high at 400 yards and use that for a baseline. I've calculated my drop to be 23" at 400 and 46" at 500 so I'll see what the reticle looks like at those distances and chart from there.
 
A mil is 0.36" at 10 yards, you can put 2 pieces of paper 0.36" apart on the wall and look through the scope. Or 1cm at 10m.

1 MRAD is 10cm at 100m. Therefore, 1cm at 10m would also be 1 mil. However, I am assuming this is a variable scope with Second Focal plane reticle. That would mean that the reticle does not change at all based on the power setting you are on. So set it on one power and figure it out... then don't touch it or you will have to do your calculations all over again.
 
So if the height of my crosshair from skinny to thick is say 3.5cm at 10m it's safe to say that it's 3.5 mils ?
Yes, at that magnification. The hard part is blurriness, you can increase the distance, or a pin hole aperture may help. I have colored stickers on the kitchen wall.
Thanks. I decided tomorrow am I'm going to set a piece of paper out at 100m with hash marks every 10cm and see what the subtension is at 3/6/9x.
Great, everybody should do this! Check the accuracy of your clicks while you are at it.
 
Just in case anyone is following along, I gave this a try this weekend. I figured out the duplex reticle in mrads at each power.
9-1.1
8-1.3
7-1.5
6-1.9
5-2.1
4-2.5
3-3.1
And using a ballistic app I was able to figure out what distance each power is good for holding where the reticle gets wide. At 3x it theoretically will get me to 570 yards. I'm looking forward to trying it out on steel to see how close it is. Kind of a neat way to use a duplex reticle when that's all you have available. Keep in mind that this all changed when you mess with the focus eyepiece. I will put hash marks on mine so I know where it was set when I did the calculations.
