I will be loading AIM 180gr plated bullets using Titegroup. I checked the Hodgdon online data, and the only reference there is for Hornady XTP 180 gr, from 4.2 min to 4.7 max. My Lyman book doesn't even mention Titegroup in .40. Does anyone have a suggestion, or should I just start with 4.2gr and see how it goes? Also, does the OAL of 1.125" make sense for an XDM? TIA.

Not real familiar with reloading Tite Group in .40, but if the manual states that powder weight for the jacketed 180, then you won't be too far off with the minimum load to start. I know lots of people happy with Tite Group in 9mm and .40.

If you keep your overall length between 1.125" and 1.135" you will be fine. The official SAAMI length is 1.135".

Good luck, and safe loading.

I think you generally need a bit more powder to get the velocity from a plated bullet versus a jacketed one. If you are looking to make power factor (ie. IPSC Major), you'll probably end up going over book max to get it. 4.7 won't do it for me in my XD. 1.135" COL is good and should work fine.

Thanks for the info, guys. The ammo is for plinking only, so I'll probably start with 4.2gr and see where it takes me. I stumbled across a 'glock bulge' discussion - so now I'm busy de-glocking my range pickup brass, and won't start reloading .40 until the weekend.
