My point of impact is way too high, I'm going to try and shim the rear Weaver base. I want to bring the point of impact down 4-6 inches at 100 yards, my scope adjustments are bottoming out. What would be a good material to use, and I know a few of you might be able to calculate an appox. thickness to bring it up that high at that range. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

You need to shim the front base. I could give you the calculation, but on an aproximately 5 inch ring spaceing its close enough to 1" per .001" that you can just do that. Close enough for government work.

Lap your rings. Misaligned rings are a great way to bend a scope tube, if you haven't already.

Aluminum works fine... pop cans are a source. Sheet brass at hobby store works well... 10 thou to start with... maybe 20 thou required. It depends how far apart your bases are. You want to get your scope adjustments in the middle. Trial and error is the easiest way.

You can get various thicknesses of brass shimstock from a hobby shop or model RR parts supplier. A piece from an aluminum beer/pop can mics .003/.004 and works well too. Another possibility is a piece of safety razor blade.

If your set up will allow a med burris signature zee ring with plastic inserts you can get the offset inserts. I've used them for this purpose and they work great, unfortunatley you cant get them in low. If you do use a shim I would suggest bedding the shim to the base to be sure that there will be no movement, ever. I've done this with great success also. If you know someone in the mechanical industry you may be able to find some "spare" brass shims used in transmissions or differentials or any gear box.

I like the feeler gauge idea!

Over the years I've had a couple of instances where I've had to do some shimming and have done so using a 'by guess & by golly' method:p. A while ago I picked up a few;) extra scopes and in the box with a new Bushnell the following Bushnell Shim Guide info sheet. Thought I'd post it, front & back, as it may be what you need.
