Hi,

First I would like to apologise for my English. It is not my first language but I will do my best.
I am new to winchester 61 and I am going to see one tomorrow. I searched the forum for caracteristics to evaluate its value.
When I try to match the gun to the caracteristics found on the forum, it is confusing.

First I do not have the serial number. Based on the seller, it is a 1940 and it has the tang screw, which confirm it is a pre-war.

But it also has the long forearm, which make it a post-war?

Finally, it has a checkered pistol grip but a grooved forearm . The only other checkered pistol grip i found on the net was matched with a checkered forearm.

I hope it is not the case but, it looks like it is a pre-war gun with replacement stock and forearm. So what do you think? Could it be a kind of variation of the standard?

Other than that, it is in good condition. If it is not original, what does it worth? I just don't want to pay the collector price if it is not a collectible.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your answer.

I found two discussions on the web concerning checkering on model 61. I seem clear that "Winchester never offered checkring on the model 61".
So, do you have an idea of what is the correct price for a non-original model 61 in good condition?

Well, fer chits and giggles, go to some U.S. of A. sites like gunsamerica and have a gander.
It is alarming what they git for them down south.
Not reflective of our market, but they are plum s'pensive.
