I need your opinion on AR-15's

I disagree 100%

Many of us take our rifles or uppers down South to train -- so the staking, the barrel steel etc is a factor.

Secondly as one who has several custom barrels -- unless I am shooting 400m+ or playing some ### how small can I make a hole game - a Colt or LMT barrel will shoot just fine - and more than enough for DCRA Service Rifle - even at the 500m V Bull

After some of the BS RRA has pulled with their make beleive M1993 spec rails of a few years ago - and several other issue s- I would never buy a RRA product -- the DEA got shafter with them due to them being the low bidder to Colt -- even when their guys wanted Colt...

Given Colt's outrageous price (and I collect them), LMT is probable the best choice in a service rifle type carbine.

CMT/Stag's annodizing has been thin in several runs -- but Walt at Arms East looks after customers and will replace stuff if their is an issue.

Armalite has started to look after their QC a lot better these days and other than the 1:9 twist issue, they make a nice product.

Bushmaster's QC has gone to hell and I would not buy one. -- you may get lucky - but based on larger user groups -- your much more likley to get a dog with them...

As for parts guns --- I have several, and if your building with high end parts and know what your doing its fine -- but for the early owner -- one is best off to buy a complete factory rifle -- and go from there...

I can't disagree with anyting you said. I wasn't implying that proper staking etc was NOT important, but rather lots of guys spend way too much time debating and analyzing ad naseum the merits "my brand is better than yours because bla bla bla " instead of buying the best you can afford and shooting it lots.

You have far more experience with ARs than I will ever have, but to imply anyone who buys a "lesser" AR such as the RRA,DPMS, Armalite made a POOR decision I can't agree with.

Again most guys that buy these lower tier brands will be just as happy because they will never be using their ARs for what you use them for

Lots of guys have explained to me how their guns is the "best" and their latest scope has the best glass etc and they still cant hit #### . Go to any range on the weekend and you will see this.

Would I buy another RRA..no, but I wouldnt sell it off because my LMT better made

I have had guys at the range tell my how much better their Colt is than my LMT . Get this more with 1911s . I have been told that their Colt 1911s are better than all others ( STI etc ) because its a Colt . I really don't know how to respond to such bias ( I have Colt 1911s BTW )

I dont think anyone is poorly served by a gun that runs -- and frankly with the 5rd mag laws - you rarely will heat a gun up to the point that some of the issues will bite you.

I wont buy RRA out of principle due to their lying about their out of spec uppers (see the 1993 spec issues from way back).
BM - sold their soul for quantity over quality - way too many canted FSB's, and bolt breakages - same with DPMS (Didn't Pass Military Spec)

The same issue with Dlask selling "From a Military Contractor" made (please give me a ####ing break) uppers and barrels -- if its not Colt or FN and so marked its not Military Contract stuff (and then its stolen if its FN)

ANYONE is better served in training that getting caught up about name brands -- however - if one is starting from the get go - one can take steps to avoid (or minimise) some pitfalls.
I've had BM, Armalite, Colt, LMT etc. guns -- I had a bad BM barrel - and two broken DPMS bolts.
I've also broken Colt and Diemaco parts -- so anythign can fail -- however things that are inspected during production have a better chance of culling the lemons prior to the custom recieving their firearm.

Honestly if Armalite made a 1:7 barrel - I would likely have mostly Armalite Xm-15 rifle/carbines -

another vote for stag, i looked around and didnt like what i had seen as im picky on the finish and stags were great looking to me. hell i just got back from shootin it. wish the sun didnt go down so early.

I love my Diemaco C7A1... 20years old and still perfect.

And my semi auto; it's a hybrid Bushmaster lower/Armalite midlength upper. Works good.

FYI, the critical components for accuracy are (in order of importance): shooter, trigger, ammo, barrel, sights.

Buy either one of these:
LMT, Stag, Colt, Armalite, Bushmaster, RRA.

Have fun :)
