Is this a Hardwood or a Laminate stock?

Regardless I think im going to give this a try with mine soon since my family has all the stuff to use at home anyways

its a laminate stock! I wanted one because of the way the different layers look.

It looks very nice, you did a fine job. I did the same thing on a hardwood stock last summer, but used a reddish colored stain. It came out pretty good as well.

I refinished my sks using citrisolve, 000 steel wool, to get out small dents and dings I use an iron and a damp cloth over top to bump them back out. I usually finish it with BLO, I have also used tru oil. Yours looks great by the way! great job.
