I really enjoy the wealth of knowledge that is shared on this site. So much to learn about the ever-changing Firearm Legislation and current policing practices.
I have always enjoyed the sport, a decade or so ago I was doing everything from target practice to skeet shooting, and hunting with family and friends. It was laid back.Wow! How the climate has changed in such a short time.
I recently returned to the sport, completed my RPAL and bought a new hunting license to do my part to keep this important heritage alive in Canada.
I remember 15 years ago; shooting clay pigeons in the back yard (we had 5 Acres) with my friends using my fathers shotgun, each of us taking turns. About 30 minutes into the fun, a RCMP cruiser drove up; a lone officer approached us with open hands and a smile, (me 17 years old with a loaded shotgun) all the officer wanted to know was that we were being safe, asked whose gun it was and recommended that we wrap it up soon as a neighbour had voiced a noise complaint. Now there are stories in B.C. of Legal Firearm owners getting kicked in the face, for the legal transport of a rifle in their vehicles at a roadside traffic stops.
I have become much more aware of the media and reporters linguistics when referring to firearm related events, it is very apparent that we collectively need to continue to correct the misrepresentation of Canadian Firearm owners in the media.
-Challenge the fear-based misinformation that’s permeating the news within your circle of influence. Invite a new person to the range each month, encourage others to get their RPAL and continue the tradition!
Thank you for hosting such an awesome site!
