Really? That's a perfectly legitimate purpose to buy a handgun. That's excellent news, this was on Canadian TV? I just can't believe that. Excellent. We need more of this, to de-liberalize the country.

I just saw it a couple days ago but I'm not sure the episode, might have been Into the Spider Hole. It had a segment on an Alberta family who was prepping. The mom and dad went out and bought a couple Glocks for self defense and they said that on TV. Then they went and practiced at The Shooting Edge. I loved it just not sure I would have said it on TV. :)
 
I watched that last night. It had a really good shot of the store sign when the couple was walking into the store. It was a good little plug for the store, I'm sure.

as long as its good footage. Saw some show ...forget the name of it...could be "doomsday preppers" IDK, but there were two women living together on welfare in the USA that were selling everything they owned because of 2012 to buy guns and ammo. They lived in a cluttered run down house with crap all for food reserves (they had some but less than most non preppers imo) and a couple jars of booze. They seemed to be missing a few bricks too ignoring the who buying guns thing.......they came off pretty bad the way the show portrayed them.

You need to read the firearms act.

And post a single link to any news article or court decision that shows anyone's licenses has ever been revoked for saying the purpose of purchase was self defense.

FYI this is what the firearms act says:

Permitted purposes

28. A chief firearms officer may approve the transfer to an individual of a restricted firearm or a handgun referred to in subsection 12(6.1) (pre-December 1, 1998 handguns) only if the chief firearms officer is satisfied

(a) that the individual needs the restricted firearm or handgun
(i) to protect the life of that individual or of other individuals, or
(ii) for use in connection with his or her lawful profession or occupation; or
(b) that the purpose for which the individual wishes to acquire the restricted firearm or handgun is
(i) for use in target practice, or a target shooting competition, under conditions specified in an authorization to transport or under the auspices of a shooting club or shooting range that is approved under section 29, or
(ii) to form part of a gun collection of the individual, in the case of an individual who satisfies the criteria described in section 30.

They will simple get a psychiatrist to declare you "paranoid" and "mentally incompetent" for being a prepper. It already happened to one guy in the U.S. that went on the show.
