well, i think i gone and done it. yup. i'm pretty sure i wore out the spring in the mag tube on my Maverick. 6400+ rounds through the old girl. 4 thorough cleanings. i was on a mission to see what kind of abuse this shotgun could take. the spring is the first thing to give me issue. the rest of the gun is still funcitoning flawlessly. so whether the mag tube spring wearing out is a failure is a matter of opinion.
here's what's happening:
5 round capacity in the tube. i can put three rounds in no problem. the 4th goes in stiff, the 5th a bit stiffer. i can then cycle 1 maybe two rounds. after that, the spring and follower jam up. i have to tilt the gun to slide the shells onto the feeding tray. once the mag is empty, i have to remove the barrel, slide a cleaning rod into the mag tube from the front and gently tap the follower. snap! it goes back right where it should.
i've removed the spring, scrubbed it down and lubed it. i did the same for the follower cap. no dice. i then tried reversing the spring. no dice. i've remove the mag tube, obviously, and given it a good cleaning. no dice.
i'm thinking i need a new spring.
suggestions?
