So i was up on crown land and FINALLY got to shoot my m305.
its marked:

M305
7.62 mm
P######

on the receiver, i bought a 500 round case of Barnaul ammo for it, and had a great time shooting this thing, pretty accurate i must say. i only had 3 FTE out of 300 rounds fired. but im starting to think i bought .308 and NOT NATO rounds. the packaging is confusing me,basically did i buy the wrong ammo or what ?

3 fte out of 300? , that's fail to eject? but they all went bang?
doesn't sound like you've screwed up LOL
I'd probably want to investigate possible causes hindering the odd case to eject, but otherwise as long as yer not seeing signs of pressure in the ejected cases and they all go bang....... yer probably GTG
I've no personal experience with the Barnaul ammo..... interested to hear from others

You're fine, don't stress.

From a cartridge dimension perspective, a 7.62 x 51 chamber is a little longer than 308 so you are good to go (but maybe not for 7.62 in a 308 chamber). In theory you could find some 308 ammo that exceeded the pressure tolerance of a 7.62 NATO chamber but I can't think of any Commercial ammo that would be loaded that hot.

only reason they didnt eject properly was cause i didnt slam the magazine in hard enough.

Sure it does, magazine wasn't seated properly in the mag well, thus not able to cycle rounds properly

I think Winz is referring to the fact that mag seating can have little effect on the ejection cycle....feeding/loading however...

Well that's what happened, so I don't know what to tell you, either way, thanks everyone for the advice, I'll keep buying that ammo if I feel the need ;)

Bingo.

If you had no mag in your receiver, should it still eject the round? Yes, of course it should. If you had feeding issues, that is entirely different.

Now, it is perhaps possible that with a weird seating of the mag, the nose of the next round may snag, bump, cause friction with the bolt trying to extract/eject the round...maybe...

Sorry let me rephrase my FTE theory, what I meant was, a stuck casing during next round cycling.

I have one word..... extractor...... did I mention that earlier? LOL
3 out of 300..... well, keep the chamber clean to rule that out and keep an eye on things. if the ejection issue gets worse, replace extractor, detent and spring.

I've only shot about 80 rounds of Barnaul through my shorty but had no misfires or ftf. Only used them because I had no Norc surplus for a while. Gun seemed to like them but not the most accurate stuff. On that note Í find it very weird that different m305's seem to "hate" certain loads/brands & "love" others ? Mine absolutely hates Remington Core Loct 150grn; stovepipes every 2 rounds but will gobble Federal 150grn or Norc surplus all day long without a hiccup.

So far with the tweaking mine makes 3.5/4 MOA with the Norc surplus. I have slightly wider groups with Barnaul. Next time I go I'll buy some Federal and see how that goes.
