i think i screwed up...

There you go. Huge difference. Better not mix 'em up!

Btw, my savage seems to like LC 7.26 better than AE 308 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's the chamber drawings where the differences lie. ;) Wether that is a real difference seems to vary with who you ask. My Garand book says to use heavier weight .308 cases in 7.62.

Grizz

How the mag is seated has nothing to do with ejection.
You need to try some other ammo. The lacquered steel cases might, I say again, might give you grief.
If you're not reloading, you need to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your rifle shoots best. The price of said ammo means nothing. And .308 Win is the same thing as 7.62NATO. Despite all the internet nonsense.

Mine hates Winchester ammo. Tears the back right off em'! Will be trying some NATO rounds this weekend.

One of the major differences between 7.62 cases and 308 cases is the head hardness. 7.62 case heads are made to take violent extractions. Some 308 cases rims are quite soft and weak.

Every rifle will show preferences for accuracy, so buy several sample brands in your price range, to see what it likes.

I ran 500 rounds of the MFS steel cased ammo through mine a few years ago with no issues.

I should repost the squib load and near catastrophy we had in a buddies m305 with that MFS stuff
never again LOL
though it shoots just fine in my ruger scout.

7.62 nato maximum pressure is measured in CUP. .308 win is measured in PSI. The two systems are not even remotely relatable. Mistakenly taking the CUP limit and thinking it was PSI is what starts the whole debate.

Before there was internet, everyone knew that they were the same cartridge.

the debate over 7.62 or .308 has zero to do with chamber pressures, it is accepted that they are nearly the same.

in Bolt guns yer really not going to notice any difference , all my .308 bolt rifles will chamber and fired true 7.62 nato spec ammo.
BUT my dead nuts .308 match chambered M14 type rifles WILL NOT fully close into battery on true 7.62nato ammunition. these rifles have Norinco barrels and Krieger barrels and match .308 chambers of 1.630"
now, of the M14 rifles I own, I cut one chamber (Krieger barrel) to 1.632" or 2 thou over Match .308 as this seemed to be recommended by some of the top rifle builders stateside for a chamber that will allow the bolt to close on 7.62Nato spec ammo.

so, there IS a difference, even if it only shows it's head when you have an M14/M1A with a Match .308 chamber in yer mitts.
if your rifle has a headspace value measuring 1.632" or higher..... you will likely not have issues.
as a general rule, anytime you use a new ammunition to your rifle, always make sure your bolt is closing all the way before pullin the trigger.

My super match chamber is 1.632 and I'm loading LC 7.62x51 brass without issue.

there ya go ;)
same in my 1.632 chamber with portugese and south African military surplus although I notice the odd minor chambering malfunction that will eject a round but fail to chamber the next one..... I at first suspected short stroke and went to the gas system but soon realized the problem was a slightly dirty chamber. with my tight match chambered rifles, I now practice a quick chamber clean every 100 rounds with the garand tool/chamber brush and the problem is non existant now.
