I think I want this browning bar...

So a good friends father needs to move, and is selling off his last 2 firearms.(he's also 86 years old)
He shows me a mosin nagant (I allready own) and a browning bar safari 2 in 270
Tells me he's owned it since new and only 4 rounds down the pipe.

Only 1 little mark that's barely noticeable...

So any ideas what I should offer him?
He says he paid over $1600 when he bought it new.
 
I've seen 308win's at gun shows in really nice shape for $750 plus.
Do they sell?
Don't know.

I guess it's up to you how bad you need to own this fine jewel in this caliber.
And also what your conscience will bear?
 
Way too expensive at $1600. I just paid $1400 after tax last year for my 30.06 at Bass Pro and I got one of the medium-exclusive editions. I can't see the muzzle, but I'm assuming his is not the edition with the BOSS fine tuning thing?

I don't think you're low-balling at all to start at $1000 and not budge much from there. If you have the money and don't care, and love the calibre, maybe $1200 tops.
 
I think these $600-$750 ones are older BARS and not the improved Mark II Safari. I saw a gunsmithing video explaining how the gas system was improved. My guess is around $950-$1200 in mint condition. Brand new they run around $1250-$1400 depending on caliber and options.

Nice rifle. Especially with the iron sights on it.

Is it a Belgium made parts and assembled in Portugal?
Not that there is anything wrong with the Browning assembled in Portugal.
I certainly wouldnt pay $1600.00 for he gun even if it was only 4 shots down the pipe.
Slightly over priced , but that is my comfort level on that used gun.
Your Opinion may vary.

Honest price...$850-900 for that condition. I had the exact safari model in that caliber as well. Bought in 1994 at Italian Sporting Goods for $1150 plus taxes. Not sure where he bought it for $1600.The BAR I's on the EE for more than $650 are not gonna sell....not for a very long time.

I can't decide if I want to shoot it or sell it.. I allready own a bolt action in 270. I fear that I will like the
Bar more... But it's too beautiful to take out hunting... Damnit I dunno guys.

A rifle is NEVER too beautiful to take hunting.

Take care of it and you can hunt for many years and it should look just as good. The odd small dent or ding just adds to its character.

Ardent just bought an H&H worth several 10s of thousands and I'm sure it will see hard hunting in due time. Never such a thing as too pretty to hunt.


Keep it, shoot it, hunt it.
 
you got it now just enjoy it .makes some memory's and storys to tell the fellow you got it from ,I am sure that in a few years he would love to see the pics and hear the storys you will be able to tell from being out hunting with his price iron ,put some lead thru her that's what she was made for Dutch
 
Once again missed a beauty !!!! Browning the best there is!!!!....would of been a awesome toy for my girlfriend,,,,, I'd have no problem paying 700...800...850 for it.... It's a browning simply the best out there!!!!!..... I hate surfing these forums !!!!!cause it's always to late!!!!!
