I think it's time to re-scope my model 70FW

The fun part is figuring out what I want to do. I currently have a Shirestone 4-12X44 on it, which has been a decent scope, but it sits a bit high and seems like I am slower to acquire my target with it for some reason. It generally seems out of place for one of my go to hunting rigs. It will likely go back on my 223, where it works just fine for me. So here is the question, trying to get back to a light, quick handling rifle what are some combos you guys have used on your feather weights? I am thinking prob 3-9X40, possibly $5-800. I would really like decent clarity and low light capabilities. The suspects so far are ziess conquest, leupold VXIII, or possibly a meopta of some sort. Any other suggestions?

Clay bought out a distributor in the USA,and was selling the 3-9x42 for around $700.He sold out the first batch, but he apparently has more on the way, presumably for the same price.I know that I have two spoken for out of the next order.

I like the Zeiss Conquest for the no BS warranty service, and I also really like the Burris FFII 3-9x40. The Vortex Viper 3-9x40 is also a great scope, and has an unbeatable warranty and CS. I've found the adjustments to be precise and repeatable on all of these, and the brightness and resolution is nearly equal among the 3.

Thanks for the input. I was out taking a bit of a look today. Wanted to take a look at one of these VX3's but it was hard to get some one at the counter to give any attention. Busy time a year but sometimes I wonder why I even try to support local business. Any how, I was able to have a look through a meopta 3-9x42 and a conquest 3-9x40. Now without the front AO that my Shirstone has, both of these look like they would mount fairly low. I have had a conquest before, quit liked it, but the Meopta was a bit disappointing. I don't think the eye relief or clarity was much better than what I have. Want to have a look at a VX3 with the 36mm objective still. I have had a vx2 before and was happy enough, but I think the meopta is out. Wish I could find a Kahles to look at as well.
