I thought of a possible fix for the bent type 81 rifles

disclaimer, I do not own a type 81. But if the problem with the bent rifles is an improper installation of the front trunnion, could you theoretically just strip the receiver yourself and reinstall it properly? I could be wrong. If anyone knows, please share!

My best guess is that the mating surfaces of the front trunnion arnt milled parallel to the bore or vice-versa. Honestly the issue aint worth fixing anyways IMO.

what about optics mounting though? Wouldn't the bend make it virtually impossible to do unless it was fixed in some way?

Depending on the optic/mounting system, at worst shims would correct for any angle issues. Remember, they used to mount scopes horizontally on rifles. And the t81 is a x39 3-8 MOA rifle...

My one first import Type 81 folder is about as "bent" as they come, a trunnion misalignment of about 60-70moa. However many optics amazingly have the adjustment travel to compensate for that. Optics with 30mm tubes like my Vortex StrikeEagle 1-6x24mm have an advertised 145moa of adjustment lol. Surprisingly the BelOMO Universal PK-A red dot that sits on that "bent" Type 81 also has enough adjustment. If one was to equip an optic like a POSP, PSO or PO then they may have major issues since after the adjustment was made, the aiming chevron would be horribly crowded to one side of the FOV.

So in laymans terms, if u equip a nice western optic thats advertised to have lots of adjustment u should be just fine.

Yeah you would have to mount the optic in a constant offset to compensate for the bent barrel. It really isn't worth the trouble. Irons are totally unaffected by this problem at least.

Contrary to the popular belief, you dont need to compensation for anything. If the optic zeros... its zeroed. 100m, 500m it wont matter. When i reversed the 1913 on top of my Benelli MR1 to get better eye relief with my LPVO, the POI was at first 4ft left of where the LPVO was aiming at 50m. Needless to say the rail must have been crooked on the top of the gun. But the LPVO was able to adjust for it and i got it zeroed at 100m. On a calm day that gun would whack steel out to 400m with relative ease. No horizontal compensation required despite the crooked 1913 rail.

I was wondering if anyone made a mount to replace the rear sight (like they make for SKS's). That would align the optic with the barrel and remove the need for mounting an optic crooked to match the bend.

any gunsmith "did" this if you were to bring it to them when these were free from the safes. any mount relates back to the alignment game like on a car, make it true. no car is straight.

I remember that someone had made a red dot mount that was installed on the rear sight but I don't remember who and I can't find it when googling

i started working on something like that but didn't finish it.

My personal observation is that all models except possibly the sr and M are made from reject parts or demilled full autos. The blonde 2017 imports have a faint triangle 26 and t81-1 on the trunnion. Ive seen brand new lmg with the bolt carrier peened like it has 50k rds. This explains the bend the trunnions are most likely reject parts
