KODIAK OUTPOST is selling TOZ-78 22 LR Non Restricted 21" Selling at Cost $195.39

I am looking at this rifle for compatition they say its a heavy barrel can I put peep sights on this and is it accurate can the trigger be cleaned up. Is this a good price not a lot of gun shops were I am. Please advise and offer your two cents. Thank you

From what I have read they are decently accurate, I handled a Winchester import the "Wildcat" and if I remember correctly the trigger is adjustable too. If you don't get much feedback, google it I am sure you will find out lots about them.

I have heard they have extractor problems on some, and if a part breaks, you are S*** out of luck if trying to get a replacement part. This is only hearsay, as I don't own one. I recently saw a thread on here that several owners commented on. I too was going to buy one, but took them off my list after seeing the thread. I would do some more research before committing to buy. They do look like a good gun to me. And at a reasonable price. Maybe Kodiak has the ability to get replacement parts if necessary.

Buy one - likely the best bang for the rimfire buck out there.
They are very accurate, as stated an adjustable trigger too. Son & I have had them for @ 6 or 7 years, no problems. Most of the reported problems are with the TOZ semis.
Check out rimfirecentral.com for lots of info, might be some info on peep sights there.

I own one of Kodiak's Toz-78's, so I can offer some feedback. Note, however, that I'm a casual shooter, and the only other rimfire rifle I own is a Marlin 795.

Mine pretty much fires where I point, and the trigger out of the box is better than everything except my CZ Shadow (but it's adjustable if you don't like it how it comes from the factory). The bolt is rough and needs a lot of smoothing out. One thing to be aware of is that mine doesn't feed Eley ammo very well because the bullets are too soft and get smushed when feeding; this might be of concern to you as a competition shooter, so I would inquire more whether others have had this problem.

I have no idea about peep sights; I just went and bought one of those Kalinka mounts that are designed for this rifle. You'll definitely have to look into that more on your own.

As far as I've seen, Kodiak's price is the best around (even better now than when I bought mine), and he's pretty damned fast at shipping it.

I have to state that Kodiak has them on at cost now, and they are a superb outfit. Kodiak is a great seller, and I have bought other guns from him that went as seamlessly as you could imagine. I now remember that the problems were indeed with the semi's and not the bolt .22's. I may put the toz rimfires back on my list. Thanks for the clarification Atlas.

I should have also mentioned that one of those Kalinka Optics mounts must be an entire pound on its own, so it makes the gun heavier than you would expect once you put optics on it. They work pretty well though; I've got a Bushnell 6-18x50 on mine, and I can still (barely) use the irons due to the clearance they offer.

Also, I haven't used mine a ton (maybe three hundred or so rounds so far), but it seems pretty solid. The plastic magazines really are ultra cheap, and they don't seem like they would work when you first handle them, but they function flawlessly as well. The fact that they are cheap plastic means you don't feel as bad when they get abused, because it hardly differs from their original appearance.

I understand the concern for parts, but, I mean, this is a $200 gun that shoots very well and has a really nice trigger on top of it. As long as you get to shoot some twenty- or thirty-thousand rounds (or whatever number you feel is reasonable), I don't see it as a big deal if you can't get parts when that time finally comes.

I got 2 from Armrus going out of business sale, $100 a piece. I dont know if I would pay $200 for one....they are fairly rough, shoots great though, great trigger, rifle is nice and light.

I have 2 as well. Bottom line they shoot straight considering the price point. I wouldn't compete will them but if you are on a budget why not, you will get close to what you paid when you upgrade. I can't think of another $100-200 gun that shoots as well. As Hitzy says I love how light they are and great to take along on day hikes at the cottage without being a burden. Not sure if having a light, thin stock is a plus in competition?

I've always wondered if they would improve if someone took the time to smooth out the trigger group. Let us know how it fairs in competition if you decide to get one.
