the norincos have big ol 7.62 chambers- thinking it might be worth it to get a springfield so I can reload 308. Though from what I hear the quality for the money is hard to validate over the $400 norincos...an lrb is out of the question

I got both. And yes the norcs are great value for the money. But the Springfield is worth every penny. Quality is top notch and all around smother and more accurate

People, please do some research on the firearm you own, sheesh!

No difference

Just set up your reloader to match your measured chamber....

Or replace the bolt to achieve a tighter headspace.

I've fired about 800 rounds of .308 hand loads out of my M305 with zero problems, also zero problems with resizing the casings fired from the M305, just check your spent casings to see if there's any issues

Same here. No problems at all, just check your casings thoroughly. Maybe Im lucky, but I can get anywhere from 4 to 7 reloads before culling the cases. Had Hungry check the headspace and he said good to go and that was all I needed to hear. Only problems I had was with AE brass. That stuff will not work in my gun even new out of the box, up to 6 to 8 fail to extract out of a box of 20.
Before I started handloading I would shoot 7.62 and .308 in that big old sloppy chamber :)))
Safe shootin'

If your primers are to thin you might gret a slam fire - don't use cheap primers - i use CCI BR2 primes and never had a problem. You can also buy a USGI bolt -it will tighten that headspace right up and still be a lot cheaper than a Springfield.

I've reloaded with federal, remington and Winchester brass, all with Winchester primers and data from the Lee manual, zero problems in about 500 rounds

I know I know just shoot it falling dicks etc :)

What I dont get is the chamber will be larger than 308 field reject dimensions. .308 FIELD NO GO is 1.638" vs 1.641 ish chamber of mine.

What Im wondering is- What are the effects of firing a cartridge that is quite a bit smaller than the chamber it fits into?

can I adjust my dies to make the cartridge "bigger"?

I will try to find the test a guy did over a m14forum.

But in short, nothing.

Yes you can.

My M305 is stamped for .308.

So are mine, but their chambers have 7.62x51mm dimensions. Anyways, I haven't fired a single Nato round in them, yet. I have, however, just gotten my first sub MOA 5 shot group with one of them, firing my .308 Win reloads. I can't wait to go back and check if it was a fluke or a sign of things to come.

Have had my M305 and Poly for a few years now. Both stamped 308. I have used allot of differant brass through my girls with no problems at all. Safety first follow the directions to the T when relaoding keep an eye on wearing of your brass and start with minimal alloted loads and work your way up. for Plinking I use 145 grain FMJ, 40 Grains IMR 4895, CCI BR #2 primers and Remington brass mainly and I have 7.62.51 brass in the mix on the 6th rotation in my reloads No issue.

Ive shot 20 rounds of winchester super x 150 grain .308 new from the package because thats what i was given by the guy at the desk have i done any damage? Very silly these are stamped for .308 yet arent truly meant for it. And btw its a norinco m305 shorty
