I want to buy a Lee Enfield but...

My first centre-fire rifle was a Lee-Enfield No4 Mk1 that I bought not even a month ago.

I want more.... Maybe a No4 Mk2, or a No III Mk1..... perhaps a Lithgow with a sword bayonet... then maybe a Longbranch....

You can see where this is going.

Trust everyone here when they say that this stuff is addictive. It's a joy to shoot but ammo isn't cheap. Don't go to big box stores (Wal Mart, Crappy Tire, etc) looking for ammo, you will only find the expensive hunting stuff. Go to a gun-shop and ask for .303 FMJ. I buy Sellier & Benoit (Czech FMJ) for $15.99 a box. When I have the time, reloading supplies will come next.

In the meantime, a Mosin Nagant will have to suffice for when I want to shoot lots of rounds as plenty of cheap surplus is available.

I don't think any of my centre-fire's are going to be younger than 40 years old for the forseeable future.

In most cases you can't reload the Milsurp stuff so you will have to buy brass, or box store ammo sooner or later. :D

isn't it the Sellier & Benoit stuff reloadable?

I believe that's commercial ammo not milsurp. I could be wrong though as our options here on Vancouver Island seem limited in what we can get in firearms, and ammo variety.

sorry guys but i have to ask again; how much does a No5 MkI cost? assuming matching receiver and bolt, full military wood with good bore.

btw, is a No5 MkI also called LE savage?

All matching No5 expect to pay $350 and up.

No, it's not called that. Savage made No4s in the US for the Lend-Lease program.

No5's are incorrectly called "Jungle Carbines", which comes from the marketing term Sante Fe Arms used in the 60's to sell their bubba No5 look-a-likes.
