I have a black powder rifle coming from Africa. I now it was called "FUSIL DE TRAITE" from french troops in Africa. I would like to trace history of this gun.
Any information will be appreatied. Thanks You.

I believe "fusil de traite" is a simple designation for a trade gun . It doesn't imply anything to make or maker.
Usually these were guns used to trade for goods and as such may not be of high quality.
More info on marks (if any) is needed and pics will help you get more specific information from the real experts on here.

Any indication of caliber or guage? Bannerman assembled a lot of them for Africa up until the 1960's or so when they went out of business. I am not sure of how many of the ones sold by Bannerman were refurbished old guns and how many were of new manufacture, probably in Belgium.
