I want to go TACTICAL baby (but I don’t know how)

I bought an 870 Express and I just don’t like as a hunting firearm. I plan on buying a Bennelli for waterfowl hunting and shooting clay.

I want to do a tactical conversion with my 870 but I don’t have a clue where to start. I need a short barrel of course and I want a pistol grip stock, non-folding! And the fore stock will need replaced with a black synthetic one. Where do I get all the goodies I need?

Dlask is close to you , I believe he has new cheap barrels for sale .
As for the add ons you could try most of the banner adds above and they will have what you need , also you may want to look around in this forum to get ideas and you'll notice who here is doing what .
It's surprising how easy it is to do .

I'm going to drop by Dlask today and see what they have.

Anyone have any other ideas for a stock? I clicked on all the banner ads; I will have to call them I guess. I could not find too much on their web sites.

"...tactical conversion..." There's no such thing. The term is a marketing thing only. Generally means a shorter barrel, synthetic or oil finished wooden stock(a significant increase in felt recoil with a synthetic), rifle sights on a smooth bore or rifled barrel(slugs only with these) AND a change of finish. Usually black phosphating, but parkerizing or one of the other aftermarket finishes(like Duracoat) will do.
A pistol gripped, non-folding stock does increase your control though. Without a butt stock, a pistol grip is useless.

Most people go with either a 14" barrel and a +1 extension or an 18" barrel with a +2 extension. Ghost ring sights (or a red dot type sight) are quite popular.

The 870 has almost every accessory imaginable available for it. Take a look at the tactical shotguns thread in the pictures forum and I'm sure you'll get some ideas. Mesa tactical in the states has a big selection. Unfortunately, they will not ship a lot of their stuff up here.

Marstar also has a good array of lower-budget "tacti-cool" accessory options.

S&J hardware has a smaller selection, but their stuff is the sort of uber-cool custom-built parts that you can't find anywhere else (except S&J approved dealers :D ) Especially cool is the "Brobee" M4 type stock adaptor.

My 870 is an 18" with a +2 mag extension, a S&J bayonet clamp, a Knoxx telescoping stock, a Streamlight tac light, and a set of Trijicon ghost ring sights. Kind of ugly, completely utilitarian, and exactly the way that I built it to be.:shotgun:

I emailed Mesa Tactical, and they said they could ship up here, but they had a NEW distributor in BC, and that it would be easier to get it from them... lemme quote it up:

Dear F22_RaptoR,

I went to see Mr. Dlask. They had 12 and 14 inch barrels in stock but the $300 (plus $65 for the extension that goes with the 14 inch) price tag seemed a little pricey so I passed for now. I payed around $325 for the gun so spending $300 on a "play" barrel is a little steep. Add the stock and fore stock and my I would have almost $800 tired up in the gun. Seems a little pricey for a gun that has no practical uses beyond zombie control.

Dlask has for sale in the EQUIPMENT EXCHANGE in Parts and Bits , 18 in. barrels and mag extensions for around $120 . Short riot length barrel, and mag extension is the start of a tactical shotgun, shoot it a lot and see what other stuff you feel you need. But everything you add, just seems to make the gun heavier, great at the range or in a three gun match but a little too heavy to carry as a WILDERNESS PROTECTION GUN.

i think the shorter barrel would be a good choice. i turned my 870P around as soon as i got it. i would like to change the barrel, but haven't researched the availability of parkerized finishes. Dlask??
i wouldn't exactly call it 'tactical' but it's getting there...

I love that stock! What kind is it and where did you get it?

I just want to do the build as a fun project. I know it's not practical in anyway. Just something to have. I might even look at putting a laser sight on it. How cool would that be?
