Okay so I went to Canadian Tire and picked up a sandblaster, and sandblasted the old finish and grim, and scratches off my 1970-dated Factory 26 SKS.

I now want to parkerize it. I see that parkerizing solution is available at http://www.pjsproducts.com/radocy.htm but I am wondering how much of it I need. Will the 8oz bottle be enough, or do I need the 32oz?

I know the process involves boiling, etc... anybody here know what else it entails? How long from start to finish? (I'll need to schedule it around work, etc).

I've refinished the stock and now I'm doing the metal... should be a nice looking SKS when I'm finished with it :D

Thanks in advance...

i bought the 32 oz from PJ's,and can honestly say i doubt i will ever be able to use it all in my lifetime. This stuff goes a really loooooooong way.

Just get the 8oz,it will be plenty, you'll be able to use it over and over again.

Guns done with this:

Norinco 9mm sig clone
Makarov
HK P7 psp
Ruger MKII
12 gauge mossberg bolt action
Cooey 64
Rem 700 action and barrel

Still a gob of solution to go

The parkerizing is as easly as making hotdogs!
You will need no more than 8oz especially if your only doing one rifle. Follow the directions with a slight modification : I double the chemical content to get a darker finish. Water and park do not have to boil for it to work! Starts to color @ 160 to 180F. Plug the bore and chamber with corks. You need a stainless steel or non ferrous metal tank to do the cooking in. Stove top works for me {what the wife don't know won't hurt me} no odour detectible. Critical thing is NO OIL or Finger prints on the metalwork[ I use BrakeKleen and rubber gloves ].
Rinse in hot tap water when done to neutralize and oil with any penetrating gun oil liberally.
