Ok, I have been reloading my 223 and 308 with IMR 4895 and Varget with some success, and want to try IMR 4064, H335 and or Win 760. Has anyone has less than favorable results with these powders for your set up. No use asking me what I have been using for bullets as I am going to be trying new ones this year. I can tell you that I have a 1:9 twist in my 223 and am going to try 55, 63 and 69g this year. Maybe a bit heavier, and my 308 is a 1:12 and will probably try 155, 168 and somewhere in between. Testing and practicing is fun though. I am only shooting for group.

IMR4064 for .308 165 hunting bullets and 168 grain match bullets is consistently accurate. 168 grain match bullets out of my 1903A4 with it produces one hole groups at 100, if I do my part. Be advised that match grade bullets are expensive. However, the .308 loves 165 grain hunting bullets.
155 grain bullets are usually for Palma matches. Sierra 155 grain Matchkings are the norm.
Your .223 will likely like 55 grains and up with that twist. The 69 or a 70 grain bullet should do nicely. The IMR4064 or H335. Win 748 is the only powder Hodgdon lists though. Win 760 will do for a 150 grain bullet. No loads are given using it for a 165 or 168 grain bullet.

Just went out to buy powder to start loading myself. I bought Varget, H335,
H4895 and H4350. I will also be loading 223,308, and 30-06. All 4 of these powders are reccommended on the Hodgdon list as well as in my current Speer, Nosler, and Barnes books. However, in the Nosler book for 55gr 223 there is a notation that the H335 was the most accurate powder tested. That is the only such notation I have seen in any of the books so it stood out. Also suggested for 150 and 165 gr 30cal for both the 308 and 30-06. Have yet to work up loads but expecting good things. Good luck with your loading.

The two targets shot today in .223 Rem 700 xcr 1/9 twist at 100 yards where shot with Varget 3 shots & RL 15, 4 shots, will chrono when weather warms a little.
used 69gr Sierra MK, lapua brass, and Gold match primers.
For me one powder for both calibers you want to load for Varget is a good choice, seems like 85% of guys at Connaught use Varget.1000 yards 155gr lapua & sierra MK they get them to 3000fps with 30" barrels
When I shot hunterclass with a .308 at 100 yards H 4895 39grs with 168 gr sierra MK where tough to beat sub 1/2" 1/12 twist, 4064 worked pretty good alsohttp://

.223 loads

Hey, P14 , i was loading for an AR with a 1-9 last year , worked up a dynamite load thats a real tack driver. Using Hornady 68GR HPBT's in front of 21.1 gr of H335. also 22.2 and 22.3 gr of 2230 works well too.

I used IMR 4064 for my .220 swift, 38.5 gr. of 4064 behind a Hornady 40gr moly v-max shot very well, got a better one with 39.9 gr but it was a H0T load , it averaged 4350 f.p.s. but they all went in the same hole from 100 M.

I've had EXCELLENT success with powders on the 'slightly fast' side for most applications. Not always the best speeds, but frequently the best accuracy. I REALLY like benchmark and 3031 for 'all round' (non-magnum) powders.

The usual suspects I stock in my reloading shelf are Benchmark, Varget, and H4831SC. I also usually keep some of the 'surplus-of-the-day' powders from Higginson's around; good for making cheap plinking ammo, and it does produce very good results in the 222/223.
I've used the RL-series in the past, as well as the IMR series - but have migrated to the Hodgdon powers because they're usually more available, and are touted as being more temperature stable.

I've also been meaning to try the Ramshot series, though it seems a bit difficult to get a hold of. Higginson now carries VihtaVouri powders for an excellemt price, though its still too pricey for my taste.

What were you getting for velocities from that 223 load. Using Hornady 68gr as well, I was using 23gr of 4895 and was getting velocities of 2700+ out of a 28" barrell. Greater than the max loads shown in my manual, and there were no apparent signs of excess pressure. I was going to keep pushing it as my groups were not tight, but ran out of weather.
