Hi folks,
I have a itch to scratch, I want to buy a new rifle with a shorter barrel in a short caliber like 7mm-08 or 6.5 CM - I don't need it, just don't tell my girlfriend ;-)
Right now, I am looking at the Weatherby Vanguard compact, the Tikka T3X lite compact and the CVA Cascade SB. I already own a Vanguard so i know what to expect. I've handle the Tikka (smooth action!) but never shot it. I haven't had the chance to handle the CVA.

Anyone has constructive feedback on any of those?

Thanks in advance!

Weatherby vanguard is a Howa. Between it and Tikka, its no contest. TIKKA hands down. I have no experience with CVA so I cannot offer an opinion.

Tikka over the Cascade

Tikka vs Vanguard is personal preference. Both are great. Cant lose.

my gf got a weatherby vanguard camilla and i got a tikka t3x in ss (only because i got a killer deal on it otherwise i would have got a vanguard) between the tikka or vanguard you won't go wrong with either both are great shooters.
i like the action and bolt throw on the tikka but i like the weight and stock of the vanguard more.
i know nothing about the cva so i can't help there

If you are wanting a short caliber then buy the Vanguard. Tikka doesn't make a short action.

This, but them Vanguard actions are heavy, I find them ideal for long action cartridges but overkill for short action.
I'm guessing you want lightweight as well, I've had one of the Ruger American Go Wild Compacts in 243 go through here that was decent, along the lines of CVA quality I guess, they make them in 6.5cm as well, under 6lbs.
There are also the Browning Micro's in AB3 and Xbolt, as well as the Winchester XPR Stealth you could look into.

That extra half inch of receiver length is a real killer ;)

The short action vanguard is heavier, bulkier if that matters. Tikka uses a different bolt stop so the bolt throw is shorter on their short action rifles.

The Vanguard is a more well rounded design. But they tend to come in long barrels. The compact model looks lightweight, and not much heavier than a T3 light. Watch out for online weight specs, they are often wrong by several ounces.

You’d be well served by an M77 compact.

That's a good point: I found a 7mm-08 Weatherby compact cerakoated for $900 but couldn't find any Tikka under $1090...

The canadian tire in edmonton south common had some tikka t3x,s for 1050 but thats the cheapest i've ever seen them for

This. The fact that the Tikka has one action length is really nothing to worry about. Short action or long action calibers don't change much other than the length the bolt will travel when you run it. It's half an inch. Woopdidoo. If you run them side by side (long action calibers and short action calibers) you'll notice the difference. It's not much, but it's there. I have both. But in reality, you're going to run your action with some authority either way. So where the bolt stops doesn't really matter in that regard. That being said, my Tikka hunting rifles are all in long action calibers. I figure if I have a long action anyways, I might as well get the most performance that I can get out of it. But if I was fixated on a short action caliber, I'd still get the Tikka. The Vanguards are nice but the Tikka wins hands down in my books.

Had a T3, was nice but flipped it. Have mkv in 6.5-300 and will never ever part with it. Now I want the 6.5RPM…..
