I was offered $750 for a sealed crate, 900ct, of 1954 dated, likely Yugo, 7.92x57 today.

Really??? Is that what this stuff is going for now???

I checked all of my sources online and it appears to be unobtainable.

No one has it in stock.

I'm going to take it to the Chilliwack two day show March 20-21

I know 8mm surplus is hard to find, I just didn't know it was this hard.

I have 1000's of rounds of the Portuguese 8mm , it came in 800 round wood boxes
They made it to use in their German contract guns, mauser's,mg34, mg42's etc

So, why didn't you say yes? Are you hoping to get a bidding auction at the gunshow?

Do I detect a snivel???

Actually, it wasn't for sale when the fellow made the offer and he wanted to pay for it over a six month period or possibly more.

I'm not really into being a loan broker, so I turned him down.

If it's going to bring a buck a round, then it will go to the show, no auction, just whomever comes up with the cash first, gets to take it home.

I know that prices have gone through the roof lately, but I haven't been buying/selling the surplus ammo for a few years now.

I was just surprised by the offer and thought I would query those that are good folks here.

The gun show attendees will lowball you. I'd take the $750.

I've been doing gunshows for close to 45 years, I do have a slight idea of how they work.

If it doesn't sell in Chilliwack, maybe Penticton or Kamloops, orrrrr???

It doesn't cost anything to put it back in the truck and take home after the show. As for the money, that's just part of the fun.

Thanx for the replies though, much appreciated.

A six month period for $750? Yeah, that's ridiculous. I can see why you said no.

This morning I had several calls from locals that know me on CGN, offering to purchase that ammo at much higher pricing.

One fellow was willing to drive 200+K and pay a buck a round.

So, as the others stated, not only was I being low balled but possibly attempted to take advantage of my good nature??

I was out of touch on the price of surplus ammo and was surprised, in the US, they are selling Turk 8mm surplus in Florida for US$32/100, plus shipping and taxes. No guarantee it will go bang, so basicly selling it for the value of its components.

I've had several emails as well, but mostly from folks that want anywhere from 20-100 rounds and I don't want to go through the hassle.

So, off the the shows it goes, to be sold as a case lot.

I might even trade it for a rifle/scope I like??? Money isn't that important, but there are some things I'm still willing to accumulate.

I was just starting to downsize before the shut downs kicked in. Now I will continue to do so.

South American Mausers will be there as well.

Calgary show, if it goes ahead, will see some at our tables. Estevan, too. I can’t bring myself to sell my Portuguese 8mm. It’s just too nice.

I sold a mint specimen Port 98 three years ago in Chilliwack. Matching bayonet, sling in same condition. Made it into the first twenty minutes of the show.

Lots of vendors trying to snap it up at rediculously low prices for the time.

Yes, I had some seller's remorse, but I had that rifle in my safe and the only time it was handled was with gloves, to inspect once a year. I used the money for a great vacation.

I didn't have a confirmation of accuracy target with it though. I've only seen one of those targets and don't know if they all came with them or not???

Yeah. I meant my Portuguese ammo. I do have a Portuguese 98 as well, but it won’t be for sale. Mine isn’t absolutely mint, but it is in 85% or so condition. The old fellow I bought it from was told by a “gunsmith” that it was in mint condition. I spoke with the seller on the phone and decided to buy it.

My bad, I should have picked up on that right away, thanx for the clarification.

I had a bunch of that Port 8mm issue ammo as well at one time. I came in 1100 round, steel containers, with a lip seal, painted olive drab and was put together by FNM.

That was some of the most consistent milsurp I can remember shooting. There was also a bunch of that same manufacturer made up in the same crates in 303Brit and 7.62x63. They came in through I believe Marstar or Districorp???

I picked up a couple of crates of each.

Lever arms still has some of the 1950's dated Yugo 8x57 for sale at 20.50 per 15 rounds. And If I recall correctly still had cases available till a few years ago ?.

The sad thing is a large amount of ww2 German manufactured ammo came into the US in the summer. Its really a shame that non of it came up here as the ammo looked to be in great shape . There was even some extremely rare tungsten penetrator boxes among other flavors. The normal smk AP is still on some websites for only 1$ a round.

Canada ammo brought in that repacked 8mm a while back but that's seemed to dry up aswell.

Hopefully an importer brings in some surplus ammo soon.Even the stocks of 54r and 39mm lately seem to be only Chinese .

Lever Arms Regrets that We Must Impose a Five (5) Box Purchase Limit on this Very Scarce Ammo.

IN STORE PURCHASE ONLY! NO SHIPPING.

This is the same stuff I have and it looks like they're using it as promotional item.

Only 5 x 15 round boxes at $20.50 per box or $1.53/round, including taxes.

I'm willing to bet they only have a couple of crates??

Still, I'm going to sell it all as one lot at the show or trade it for something I like.

Thanks for the replies and info.

I knew it was hard to find and prices had gone up, but not that much.

$1340 for a 900 ct crate was well beyond my expectations.

bear hunter: IIRC, I got my Portuguese ammo from SIR. It was delivered to the old tire shop in my hometown. As an aside, the old tire shop is now my man cave, and the Portuguese ammo is back in there, 40 some years later! We used to get nice ammo and rifles from Districorp back in the day. Somewhere along the trail, I ended up with a cardboard box of about 80-100 .303 rounds marked “Singapore”.

Yeah, I hear you.

Strange what comes across our doorsteps over the years.

I just found three boxes of 7.7 skarpe patr. M.45E

It was shipped to Austria in 1951. The cartridges are manufactured by WRA in 43, according to the headstamps, 174gr FMJ.

The Austrians likely bought them for the No1 MkIII rifles given to them by the Brits, for their Border Police?
