I think you mean "wait a minute".
But it would be interesting to find out more about these, I doubt it ever made it past the prototype stages.
 
Late war experimental; conventional stocked version as well. Handful made. Source of the incorrect "tanker Garand" story.
 
Gentlemen,
This folding stock M1 was tested by Ordnance for use in the field by different units. The main problem as some of you have stated was that the folding stock was not strong for combat op's. I only know of one built and it is at SA. During testing we drop the bomb and the war was over.

So, what was the specific reason for the folding stock? Ease of carry (lighter, etc.) or as steve1973 mentioned for paratroops, or both?
Regardless, I can see how this wouldn't have worked with the kick of a 30-06.
