Anyone have an idea of value of a mismatched 1943 M1 Carbine made by IBM ??

I have little knowledge of M1 Carbines.

I seen receivers alone listed for $600 give or take.

Stock is made by Springfield. Re-barreled with a NR Barrel. Has a Bayonet lug added and 1 30 round mag.

Thanks in Advance!

Okay Thanks for the info, If it Has Zero Collector Value maybe I should list it in Hunting and Sporting Arms instead????

Is it worth the same as a Bare Receiver ??

There are a lot of "mixmaster" M-1 carbines out there, and "newer manufacture" non-restricted M-1 carbines are selling on the CGN Exchange of Military Surplus Rifle for easily $750+... :yingyang:

You'll get more than $600, for sure...

A lot of carbines were rebuilt by various arsenals in the US between conflicts that this gun was used in. The Bavarians were rebuilt by German armorers as that was one of the few guns they were allowed to use after WW ll.
when these guns were originally assembled parts were coming from the various manufacturers. For instance Quality Hardware only made receivers so who is to say how a particular QH carbine was really made up of?
This gun was planned and built to accept the same parts so Inland parts for example were used widely as they produced the most carbines.
The collector value is completely gone with a NR barrel but for those who want a shooter gun without going thru all the hoops it is worth what they will pay for it.
I am always leery of those who say a particular M1 carbine is as it was originally assembled over 75 years ago; it would almost have to be a WW ll bring back and I am sure the US army did not let every soldier issued one keep it.
my 2 cents

To me , the USGI issued Carbine is one of the few guns that will bring the same value or possibly a bit more on the "non-restricted shooter" market than it will on the collector side, unless of course it is one of those very rare specimens that can be verified as "as issued".

I paid 900 for it about 3 years ago, maybe a good place to start. I haven’t seen lots of these out there with the long barrel besides the Auto Ordanace ones and A few Non-Mil-spec sporter variants like Plainsfield (please correct me if I am wrong might be a different M1 Carbine brand that had different parts, I’m not thinking about Chiapas.)

I have many many M1 carbines and NEVER have I paid over $400.00. last stripped receiver I bought an IBM auto ordinance sub contract I got from a dealer for $75.00 1.5 years ago

barrels nice USGI one can be had around here for $100.00

the only ones worth colleting are the all original NON referb which are few and far between. as most got refurbished, they made almost 7 miilion so they are not exactly rare the other problem is they are restricted and a pen stroke away from being worthless the Only real rare ones are some subcontracted recievers and Irwin Pederson carbines

So Its only worth $75-$400 in your opinion???

SKS rifles must be Catching up fast to WW2 M1 Carbines for people collecting firearms these days.

I don’t manufacture my own M1 Carbines so I must have paid a huge premium, I’d love to know where I can buy M1 Carbines for that cheap.

Still seen people Paying $900+ for Non WW2 M1 Carbines at Cabelas not all that long ago.

I feel silly for buying it now.

$400? No way.
A nice M1 carbine can bring $1000 or more depending on the stamps and its condition. Nearly all have gone through an arsenal for a post war rebuild and the condition it is currently in will determine the value.
Sure you can find nice Garands and carbines for $400. I've never been lucky enough to find one and I'm not going to search for years to find a real bargain.
The barrel is going to reduce it's value somewhat but it may make it easier to sell. I'd start at the price you paid and go from there.

D-BOMB is right.

The GI Carbines that have been re-barreled and removed from the registry are generally worth more than the restricted versions, for obvious reasons.

That recent batch of surplus carbines dealers were selling, seem to have flooded the market with some very below average condition carbines, for above average prices.

If you can pick up a complete USGI Carbine in even decent condition for around $500, you are doing well.

The days of finding them around here (the web) for less than that, in any shape better than a parts gun, are gone in my opinion.

Of course there are a few here and there that may pop up through face to face deals, which can be had for less. But I have found this to be uncommon now.

buying at cabelas was a mistake dealers had them way cheaper then 900.00 if you READ I purchased a stripped receiver for $75.00 NOT complete rifle I had most of the IBM parts I need to build it. I know what they can sell for but id never pay that no have I had too. Ive been buying m1 carbines and parts since the early 90's before ITAR was enforced, Id buy sealed packs of spare parts ww2 NOS most in packs of 10 slides, bolts, trigger housings, springs, front sights ,barrel bands ect for cheap. I remember being pissed off when I had to open a NOS sealed case of 100 15 rnd magazines to pin them when the law changed. Tradeex brought in m1 carbine parts kits no receivers years ago (long gone) I bought probably 20-25 parts kits (mostly late war inlands) I built a bunch as I had receivers, sold a bunch and stored a bunch on the EE list it under the 750 most are priced and it will move

I've got a few various M1's. Plainfield(non military) paid a few hundred... Restricted Inland's/Bavarian conversions I paid around $600 - $700 at gun shows. Couple hundred for more the less common manufacturers, IBM's, Rock-olas, Underwood and Quality Hardware.

Don’t listen to them, NR M1 Carbines are worth more and typically sell more than their restricted brothers. $800-1000 all day.

Don’t think so , not against a REAL USGI carbine with Winchester, Rockola, or Irwin Pederson monikers. I’ve owned many USGI carbines and to me a NR carbine has no appeal , if I want a shooter carbine I’ll take a mini 14, better ballistics and cheaper ammo.

But if I want a "shooter Carbine" I'll take one of the "new barrel" ones over an "as issued" restricted (mine is an Underwood) every time...I much prefer the 1" groups over a CD-sized group accuracy any day.

prices are all over the place.

last on I bought was a few years ago $400 but it was restricted and the barrel was buggered up as some time back it was made NR with the addition of 2" chunk of pipe welded on to the end of the barrel. That was allowed back in the day... till it wasn't. So some smarty pants / nervous nelly re-registered it as a Restricted to keep everything on the up and up.

well I took it off to discover the crown was damaged as well and sent it off for re-barrelling and conversion to NR status, and had it removed from the registry. That was another $300

So all in $700

the one you describe I suspect that it should be in the $700-$800 range.

When you Dink any gun and start changing out parts, it ain't Gooder or Bestest than an Original UnDinked gun, yet the unwashed masses might think so when performing azz speak in their high and mighty opinions.
