ID a Family Heirloom?

This was my great-grandfather's first gun. He bought it for $17, when he was 17, in 1937. He was always proud of it and used it frequently up until he died in 2000. My uncle has it now. It was promised to him as a boy. I'm trying to find out the model, value and any history I guess? i'm here to learn . Thanks in advance! It says it'll shoot .22LR and .22 Long

The small writing on the left of "MOD. 06" in that picture says:
"MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN.
CONN. U.S.A PAT. JUNE 26 .88. DEC. 6 .92. NOV. 27 .06. MAY 30 .1911."

Obviously, a Winchester Model 1906 pump action rifle in .22 caliber... Value would be around 400-500$ I believe... Keep it!

As a side note, it was designed by John Browning, who designed most of Winchesters, Remingtons and of course Brownings guns from the time period.

Only the best .22 pump made. Serial number = made in 1926

That's interesting, thanks! He was born in 1920 so Now I want to try and find out who owned it before him. It was the first gun I ever shot.

Great to have something like that with the history to go with it.

$17 was a pretty serious sum of money for 1937. He had good taste and a rifle to be proud of.

That is a beautiful little pump! I love the old .22's and that one is showing it's age quite well.
