Had a phone call today from my son's father-in-law regarding what he thinks is a German K98. I own and shoot quite a few military rifles but know very little about German issued rifles. Before someone asks (and I don't blame them) I have no pictures. I asked him to tell me about markings on the rifle etc. SN is 5868. Serial number on other parts apparently match Letter code is EYF. Year of production 1941.. There is an NP on rear of barrel or on receiver .A couple Eagles with Swastikas stamped on receiver as well. Rifle is supposed to be in good condition. Stock is light coloured wood.

As well he has 2 bayonets with scabbards- May or maynot be German
#1- About 15" long marked 4217P and4160F. Scabbord marked 42FNJ
#2 Marked 6414 A and F. Herdera. Scabbord marked 6414.

As I said my knowledge is next to nothing in this field and I have not seen this equipment. The rifle has been in the owner's family since 1965 and is now in an estate and will be for sale

Any info will be much appreciated

Thanks

"NP" sounds like a commercial marking for nitro proofing. If I understand correctly, all firearms in Western Europe (Germany in particular) require this proofing before being sold into the civilian market.

Is the metal buffed or polished ? She may be a refurbed rifle from after WW2.
