Hi everyone,

I am admittedly not a shotgun expert, but I'm wondering what people more knowledgeable than me think of my idea for an all-rounder shotgun (hunting, plinking, competing, etc) :

- Based on a Beretta 1301 Tactical, because I have an aversion to long barrels and competition "spine". I'll probably send it to some shop to enlarge the feeding ramp

- Briley 3Gun M-LOK Handguard for accessories

- LEO® Gen II Telescoping Stock Adapter, for pistol grip and shooting potentially heavier loads all day.

I'll probably add a red dot as well but I wonder if that makes sense for a jack of all trades shotgun (that will break the bank a bit).

Hard to go wrong with a 1301. Buy once, cry once.
I myself am not a fan of pistol grips on shotguns, I find the recoil impulse and angle of my wrist don't get along, but that may just be my preference. Briley makes an awesome product and they would be one of my top choices for a 1301 forend replacement.
Practice with the firearm before having a smith enlarge the loading port, if quad loads are you're goal you will definitely want to know if you prefer strong hand or offhand loading, that way your smith can better decide where and how much meat to remove.

I can't quad load right now but from the turknelli I used to shoot I know the "normal size" gets in my way. I tried dual loading on a friend modified M2 (I think), the oversized port helped.
for me it's the classic stocks that hurt my wrist, the angled stock also tend to recoil in my teeth so I really want a straight stock as well.

Quad loading and pistol grips don't get along

This. A pistol grip will get in the way when you're rolling the shotgun to load it. And junk you put on the handguard/forend will probably just get in the way. Desirable competition shotgun ergos are very different from what you want in a rifle.

And a red dot on a shotgun is awesome for everything but aerial clay shooting. I put a Holosun HS510C with the circle dot on my Versa Max. Big 65 MOA circle for shot, dot in the middle for more precise slug shots.

Edit: Maybe I read the 3-gun part of the hand guard and you talking about quad loading and assumed you were planning on competition shooting with this thing. Probably not as big a concern if you just want it for the things you listed.

The 21" 1301 comp pro is pretty much what you're looking for. The good folks at Tacord took mine and opened up the feeding port and added a tube extension to legal limit flush with muzzle. Takes a wide range of extended chokes (shared with other Berettas) as well.

My main use is for 3 gun (so no pistol grip), but I believe the comp pro is an excellent all-rounder.

BTW, that hand guard is a $450 touch in Canada though...
