Ideal Caliber for Browning BLR?

In my hunting country , deer & coyotes are the most targets , so .243 is KING . I have had mine for 30 yrs. & killed more deer
than any other cal. . .243 is a deer killing machine . No more is needed out to 300 yds. It puts a big hole in the far side of a coyote
so if furs are important , drop down to a .22 Var. cal.

Had a 708. Was nice, but damn if every little dent or scratch didn’t show up. Trigger was less than desirable but worked. Magazine didn’t allow much length to develop reloads. Shot ok, nothing spectacular. Shot some deer and a bear with it. Barrel was pretty thin warmed up quick and not great for making little groups. Quick handling gun though.
Sold it for stainless tikka, and do not regret it.
If they lightened up the triggers I might consider another, but wouldn’t bother reloading due to the short magazine. They are a handy rifle for forest hunting, fields mixed with forest. Maybe get it in a 270wsm. Although limited to 2 in the magazine I believe.

No doubt. For example, in the hands of a skilled shooter a BLR is deadly on these bad boys - regardless of caliber. Simply amazing.
Dem critters ain't bears. Shoot 'em in the wet spot fer maximum hydraulic entertainment.

There is likely no such thing as an ideal caliber. It always depends upon the intended use. Personnally, I have a BLR LW PG in .450 Marlin and absolutely love it. I capped it with a Leupold VX3 1.5-5. Great gun for hunting moose in heavy timber or in the open up to 200 yards. Recoil is surprisingly manageable. It is millions of miles ahead of the Marlin 1895 in terms of quality and smoothness of operation.
I certainly would not mind another one in 7mm-08 or other deer appropriate caliber.
