Ideal kids' grouse gun

I'll add...

The year I shot the most grouse was with a 20ga Wingmaster, with an open-choke, 21" barrel. I picked-up a plain barrel and had a smith cut/re-bead. Save for maybe 2 memorable birds, any grouse that gun aimed at was on the charcoal by the next day. Max was 2-3 pellets in the breast, and a number of 1 pellet birds.

She's her daddy's girl, which is to say: tall. She's 8, but almost 5 feet tall. Kinda heartbreaking when she can't ride the kiddy rollercoaster with her friends, because she's over the height limit. Slim build, so any real amount of recoil is going to rock her whole world. And she's afraid of my Maverick 88; the pump action is a bit intimidating for her. Will likely start out with some sort of break action

Most of our grouse hunting will be agricultural or abandoned roads from the gas/oil/logging industry, or offroad trails: power lines and so forth. We're not going to bust bush and flush out grouse. They'll be ground targets at modest ranges.

I don't think she's going to have any endurance problems walking or carrying it around. She's an active person. If anything focus and boredom are going to be problems, but I really can't guess. She *loves* fishing, and will sit still in a boat for *hours*, which is amusing because she's usually such an ADHD wiggler.

I like a 9mm flobert for grouse.
Virtually no recoil. Ammo is hard to come by but the more of us there are maybe.......

Mind the age of your up and comer.
In BC, 10 is the minimum age.

I'm chewing my nails waiting for mine to get there.
at 8, he already outshoots many folks at the range with his 22's and even his 223.

Luckily, where I live, rabbits of all varieties are invasive and not wildlife and may be dispatched anywhere at any time (in accordance with firearm laws) by anyone as doing so is NOT hunting.
