I am thinking about getting serious about goose hunting now. I have killed a good many ducks this first week of the season and am now ready to step it up. I have a Benelli Nova at this point and am looking for a good choke tube for pass shooting geese with Hevi Shot. I have been looking for an excuse to purchase some nice extended chokes so I guess this is it. It would be nice if I could purchase them online...what do you recommend?

May be it just me, I use full choke, aim a little high over the head so that less or no pellet shot into the body, Some times get one or two depends on the distance.

If shooting hevi, I would just pattern your factory chokes first. The Benelli's chokes have been producing pretty good patterns.

Pattern, Pattern, Pattern!

:) I hunt Canadas from the first week of September through the snow and cold of December. I hunt at least twice a week! There is a big difference in birds after late October. They have much more fat and down! As well, they don't decoy as well. For early season, I usually use my 391 Optima with IC choke and BB Kent Fassteel. It kills very reliably. If I use the Benelli Nova, I still use an older Brily extended IC choke. The stock IC patterns exactly the same pellet count as the extended Briley! It is just more convinient to switch to high flyers!

In November, I switch to Kent Tungsten for the 2nd and 3rd shots! With the extra armour, it can take three solid hits to take those suckers down. I go to LM then which gives me a IM to Full pattern at 40 yards, depending on the load (I do pattern the loads and choose choke accordingly). You must pattern the loads through the ammo/choke combinations. You should also note that Beretta/Benelli does not recommend using chokes over Mod for ANY steel load. It is even more true for the BB and bigger loads as the pattern expands and undue pressure is applid to the chokes whereby they are difficult to remove and are damaged. I use skeet chokes effectively to 40 yards with mostly 3 an 4 Federal steel loads running at 1450 ( some left over cases). Later, I will use some 2s for the Mallards. So far with very limited shooting, every duck was down with one shot!

Don't use too tight a choke: the golden BB will do it and a good dog will bring it back!
Use the best ammo you can buy, the season is short and ammo is the smallest $ amount of your hunting budget!
Pattern, Pattern,Pattern, you must be able to see what every shell/choke /gun combinatin can do!
Practice on a sporting course! You will understand why you miss!
Move, mount and shoot! It is the best way to come home with results!

Best regards,
Henry;)
