Im looking for a new scope to use on my 300 RUM? Currently using my dads bushnell 4200, but am planning to buy him a new Tikka t3 300 wsm to use and im sure he is going to want his scope back. Im looking at the bushnell 3200, 4200, nikon monarchs, and the vortex diamondbacks or vipers. vortex is the front runner right now mostly because of the warranty. Cost is kind of an issue. Id like to stay around 400 dollars if possible.Looking at 2.5 x 10 x 40 or 50 or maybe even something in the 4x12x 40 or 50 range. Any opinions will help...

I like Nikon. Great glass, but no warranty in Canada past the initial 2 years I think it is??.... something to be aware of.
After Nikon, I really like Burris, and the Euro Diamonds are very competitive. Steel on steel adjustments, which even Leupold hasn't gone to (correct me if I'm wrong, but thats true last I heard).
However, from your price point, I kinda think you're in the 3200 class, maybe 4200 if you find a deal. On the upside, you can't go wrong with Bushnell either. They do make nice scopes.

i was looking pretty hard at the nikons but ive heard some horror stories about warranty work. I think the bushnells are a safe bet, but the vortex diamondbacks keep coming up. So far from what ive read online is that people are usually happy with vortex.
I agree with Dogleg. I have had a Leupold VX11 3-9 for about 20 years. It has been on 2 different rifles and I have never had to touch the knobs on the scope once the rifle was sighted in. The rifles have bounced around in boats and on ATV's and even survive a pretty hard fall scope first on a rock with me landing on the rifle, didn't even moved the zero. And Leupold has a lifetime warranty.
