So I'm gearing up for deer season this year, trying to get ahead of myself for once. I have an idea for a simple kind of walk in cooler to hang my end result.

While the temperature should be near perfect hanging in the shop, I want it enclosed to keep cats and dogs from playing with it.

Anyone suppose 3/8' 4x8 sheets with a bit of support would be good enough, with some of that rigid insulation inside, in case I throw some ice in there to keep it chilly??

And I suppose I'd want to use hinges for the outer facing panel, for ease of access....

Is this overboard?? I'd like to have a nice clean area, and this is what popped into my head.

And while I'm not new to shooting, I am new to deer hunting. I've only went once before, and came home empty handed. Any advice on this poor man cooler much appreciated.

Might be a bit overkill...insulation will also keep heat in. Air circulation is also very important. I hang mine outside, out of direct sunlight. Use a stick or scrap wood to prop-open the body cavity. Night temp's usually 0 to -8, enough to really chill meat. Day temp +5 to +8. I have never had a problem going a week hanging like that. Good idea to keep the animals away though. My dog once chewed the nose off a 150B&C buck. Good thing I wasn't going to mount it anyway. Good luck hunting.:)

+1 Unless you like a nice slimey, coating on your meat......

As long as daytime temps were under 5-10C we hung ours in the shade and wrapped them in cheesecloth (or a bedsheet!) and used a bit of pepper to deter the birds. Last few years we knocked up a hanging frame for the quarters in the garage and put cardboard underneath. No sense in leaving a stain on the floor thats hard to explain in the off season.....

Just finished building a cooler room at my buddys barn with a bunch of freezer lids all framed up and put together real tight.
Looks smart and clean, with air conditioner in the window frame, and comes with Stainless steel hangers and hooks.

We shoot a lot of stinky old bucks and figure the longer we age them the better they will taste.

So far we've done OK with the aging of all game, but you can still improve "good" to "better".

Nothing wrong with taking things to their peak of flavour, cause table fare is everything, and where all you're efforts will truly be judged, especially by the ladies in you're life.:)
