Hey guys - so I picked up my nickel plated Colt today and noticed some small dark spots and a dark smudge almost around the grip area. Looks like pitting to me, but not sure about the swirl/smudge area see pics. I'm pretty OCD when it comes to this kinda thing.

Any ideas/pointers on how I might be able to address these, without a full strip down and refinish? This be on of em Colt electroless nickel deals. All help appreciated, thanks!

1st picture has pitting for sure. I had a S&W that had a nickel satin finish, and hated the thing because you could hardly polish it without affecting the finish. If you're worried about changing the appearance of the finish where the marks are, be very gentle with whatever you choose to use, I used just a microfiber cloth and dish soap and altered the finish on mine.

Dish soap? Huh could it be that simple? I'm thinking like carbon tetrachloride or something... will have to give that a shot thx!

I don't think there is any easy fix... the pitting is coming up through the nickle... complete strip, prep and re nickle...

I'd agree with that, I was trying to say that even with dish soap, it effectively removed the satin finish of my gun visibly. To fix it properly would have been a total refinish of the surfaces, as I doubt re-nickling can be done to just a small area and match the original surface.
My next revolver will be stainless or blued.

Agreed. My first - and last - nickel finish pistol.

Wonder if Colt will warranty... though the thing was made in the 80's I think.
