Hope this is the right forum, feel fee to move if not.

I am trying to figure the best way to attach a rifle case/boot to my ATV for hunting. I know their are many different types of brackets out there, it just seams they all attach to the rear rack. My ATV has a rear cargo/2nd seat on the rack and I can't see how to attach any of the ones I have seen and still keep the box on for the season. I am sure others have done this and would like any advise and or pictures you have. I can fab or modify most things if I can get an idea.
Thanks

I use a Kolpin mount on the front rack. It faces forward with the toe of the boot just in front of the front tire. Handy to get the gun out, but somewhat open to damage. However, not as prone to damage as the mounts that go cross-ways IMO. At least not when travelling in the bush.

I looked at mounting it forward, but I have a custom bush bumper made of 2" steel tubing that it would interfere with and probably end up damaged(gun that is) I won't even consider the perpendicular mounts cause it would stick out wider than the quad and I would break something.

I like duck tape wrapped around a chunk of long pile carpet.

Seriously though, can't beat a kolpin boot or CT knock off in an adjustable metal mount. Don't bother with the crappy platic boot mounts, they break and take up valuable rack space.
I have mine mounted on the front rack angling back down towards my foot rest. Out of the way and works great.

If you mount it on the front rack toward the foot rest do you notice or have any clearence issues? My quad is not automatic(polaris) so the shifter is on the left and rear break on the right

mount it outboard of the quad if you think you are going to get in a situation that you coukld damage the rifle just remove the scabbard until the danger passes...

or a guard could be fabricated to protect the rifle/case

Night,

Its fits really well on my honda 350 fourtrax, I have it on the brake side as there is more clearance there than on the foot shifter side. Easy to get on the quad from either side as well.

I have the rubber coated "U" gun brackets mounted off the front lock up box as well for a .22 carbine. I find longer guns catch on bush mounted in them though, short guns OK. The U brackets also wear the finish in guns from vibration.

Thanks for all the ideas. This week I am going to pick up the koplin mount and try it out mounted on the front rack facing backward on the brake side and see how it goes. Also going to see about fabing a chainsaw mount off the front.
Thanks Again.

Just a heads up;

If you sometimes use a rifle that has a scope with target turrets, you might have problems fitting it into the Kolpin gun boot cases.... take the rifle with you before you buy, to make sure it will fit. Some target turrets are too big.

Otherwise, switch all your hunting rigs to have hunting style scopes.
