Identification Help - Percussion... something?

Hello all. I need help identifying a stripped muzzleloading firearm of some kind that I've found in the basement.

Lots of proof marks on it. As far as I can tell it's not damascus steel. Barrel is about 10" long, I'll check bore diameter when I dig up my calipers, but I'd guess something like 0.75". No rifling, it's smoothbore.

At first I thought it was a cut-down something, but the loop at the muzzle makes me think it's from some form of handgun.

What have I got here?

Looks like a barrel for a Brit "Tower" percussion pistol. I had two barrels like that at one time.
I made stocks and used Snider locks and guards.
No idea where the supply of the barrels was.

I am quite certain oldstarfire is correct. When it comes to exact model, it would be one of the models with a captured rammer - likely a cavalry pistol

Probably M1842 Cavalry pistol.
Many years ago, Dixie Gun Works sold a batch of barrels of this and earlier patterns from arms that had been scrapped in Britain.

Thanks all, that points me in the right direction. Would I be able to reasonably assume that this is a pre-1898 antique?

Yes, barrel from an antique pistol.

Yes it’s pre 1898 antique. And you can take that and build a shootable gun around it. Nice find.
