Hey Everyone,

I need the collective hive mind to solve this one. I'm trying to figure out what artillery peice or naval gun this shell casing (head) came from.

Below are the pics, but in case you are having a hard time reading:

12:00: Pf and below that: L/45 or L/4.5???
3:00: Possible WaA?? with markings M above what looks like a square/1
6:00: 1939
9:00: XI

Provided a ruler for measurement. about 15.5 cm across, but since the whole casing is not prsent, its hard to determine the caliber of gun this was from.

I tried googling the hell out of these things, but what I came up with was speculation at best. My speculation is that it might be a C/25 naval peice from the k-class cruiser Nurmberg as it used L/4.5 shells, but this is just a guess. The only thing i know is that the primer was made by a compeditor of Krupps.

This shell was retrieved by a soldier in Vietnam. I dont know the whole story. Its a friends heirloom. Hope you guys can help.

Danny

A possibility.

The 10.5 cm SK L/45 (SK - Schnelladekanone (quick-loading cannon) L - Länge *(with a 45-caliber barrel) was a German naval gun that was used in World War I and World War II. Used on some U-boats.

*Caliber as measurement of length
