I have a box of 12 Fired brass cartridges the box says 50 Cal Blanks but I never saw blanks like these. What uses these blanks they seem too big to be used in an M2 MG?

I am working on some pictures and will have them up later.
The information on the box is as follows:

0060
12 CARTRIDGES
CAL .50
BLANK C67
LOT 1 - IVI- 80

No neck on them?
I have one in my collection also. The key is the C67 headstamp.
I was told it is for a sub-calibre saluting round for big artillery.

My one is fired. Are yours live? If so, I would like to buy one for the collection.
I'll PM you

.....and it looks like this? beside a .50 round

it was just the clossest 50 i had to put up fo a comparison.

It is actually called Salvo Squeezebore or SSB. It required a special barrel that swaged the 50 cal projos down to 30 cal.
There are 5 bullets inside, stacked on top of each other. The base is hollow, like the skirt on an air rifle pellet. As it gets swaged, it becomes pretty much solid, and the velocity is increased.
Interesting idea, but it never really caught on.
The ones i have also ahve 1940's dates on them, but I think they actually where loaded later. I recall them being used breifly in Viet Nam.
There is also .45/.30 pistol rounds, and .30/?? rifle rounds
