Hi there, My friend received this old springfield 30 - 06 and with no markings we are wondering if someone could identify make and model!! Thanks for the help

It is a sported M1903A3 rifle. Remington, Smith Corona made them. You may find some markings. The US model stamp, primary manufacturer's mark and serial were on the receiver ring.
 
It may be one of the Whitworth conversions although most (if not all) I have seen had the cocking piece knob removed. Or, someone has had an action surface ground to remove the markings and built their own. How you tell a low number Springfield armory action from the rest is a guess once it's done.
Nothing left under the mount?
 
If you look at the rear receiver ring, you will see the base for the 03A3 rear aperture sight. It cannot be a low number M1903.
