So, I recently bought an old SXS locally with a fixable crack in the wrist, no blue left, but nice and shiny bores. It was sold to me as a 16ga at a 16ga price but I finally got around to measuring the chamber in it...
Cut a credit card down to .73" or so and it doesn't fit... keep trimming and at .65" or so, it fits with a bit of resistance... chamber is just over 3" long. Weird... Move on toasuring the choke, it's tiny for the reference values Google tells me.... light bulb goes off... is it a 20ga? Drop in a 20ga shell and it fits nice....
Rim OD is about .770. Chamber OD is about .690... which is about correct for a 20ga using this http://www.dave-cushman.net/shot/shotshellloads.html as a reference.
Thinking about the gunsmith, but there is nobody competent nearby... I'm thinking the seller saw the 16 on the frame and got lazy. What do y'all reckon?
