Does anyone have any tips so that I can learn about my 1858 Remington. The serial number corresponds with some later manufacture guns 58,### or something close, but the only other markings on it are "w" on the frame and cylinder. Barrel and trigger guard are quite obvious replacements. Any tips?

I own one, and will tell you what I remember... Reading up on these a few years back. The first 15,000 or so, were the model with the silver German coned foresight. These and the second model are dated something like Aug 14 1858 on the barrel. The third model is the New Remington 1861, if I recall, with much different address on barrel.
There is serial # under barrel, under grip. Letter W on frame and a D on my loading lever. There is also Stamped 3 letters of the inspector on the left grip, perhaps ONW.
