Identifying a Mauser

I'm risking the wrath of the Mauser experts on the Milsurp Forum by posting this but I hope someone can help me.
Several months ago I acquired a beautiful Mauser 98 that some unknown gun nut had sporterized ( I know this is taboo ! )
However, that unknown person did an absolutely beautiful job of polishing and re-finishing the action to the point where there is no writing or serial numbers anywhere on any part.... with one exception. On the left side of the receiver is stamped F 3 and that is all that is on the gun.
Now, I've been following the F Port thread with interest because my unidentified action has the F 3 in the exact same spot as the F *** on the pictured rifle.
The receivers look very similar..... maybe I have a " sporterized " F Block ?? ( Heaven Forbid ! )
I do not dare mention that it has also been re-chambered to 8mm - 06 by that same enthusiastic person.....
 
Often there are markings on the bottom of the receiver on the "flat" just behind the recoil lug. These may give a clue as to it's origin as well. If you can post pics of that area and any other markings it would help. Typically the marks on the receiver flat aren't polished off.

The only mark on the bottom of the receiver flat is the letter K.
Whatever letters and / or numbers that were anywhere on the bolt or receiver are long gone.
The receiver has a thumb cut similar to my VZ 24, but it does not have steps in the barrel, also the barrel appears to have less taper or maybe a different profile than my VZ24.
 
Tough to say based on just the K. A pic of the style of font it is stamped in might be a clue. I think Polish stuff and for sure German had letters like that. Thinking about it now, I've seen "K" stamped on a lot of Turkish parts as well.

The barrel could have been partially re-contoured? I've seen a lot of stepped military barrels where the steps have been partially, or completely removed when the sporter conversion was done. If some one went through all the trouble to remove the receiver markings, it seems likely they modified the barrel as well.
