Well we wanted to shoot over the winter and chasing our brass in the snow and wet was not particularly appealing so we decided to introduce idpa shooting at our club.

Basically it is shot with .22lr pistols and revolvers. We are using the head area as our Zero down target, with the USPSA box as the A Zone and the down 1 area the balance of the head area. We will divide the body of the target half way up as the down 3 area. At least one shot must be in the down 1 area or you get a FTN penalty.

Because setting up stages is going to be a cold and difficult job we wil have four stages permantly set up and just change the target arays.

Interest is high and working with the NWPPA club in Washington state we intend to have postal shoots over the winter with their club.

Hey it is trigger time and this should provide a lot of fun over the winter.

We expect to have three divisions.

cdp - for conversion kit guns based on the center fire frames.

ssp - standard production pistols

esr - revolvers (Reloading revolvers is going to be an exercise in frustration in the cold but you never know).

Daylight limitations prevents us from offering a single action revolver division.

If you are referring to cdp aka conversion defensive pistol in idpa only .22 pistols are allowed as is the case in all idpa divisions.

If you are referring to IDPA, CDP or Custom Defensive Pistol only .45acp shooting pistols are allowed. Pistols must weigh no more than 41 oz. and fit in the IDPA box. Division capacity is a mximum of 8 rds plus one in the chamber.

Who makes a .22LR revolver using moon clips?:D I can't imagine loading a .22lr revolver at that temperature but hey we grow um tough up here in the great white north.

i been asking why in IDPA /CDP/IPSC we dont have a 22cal division. for long time .It open the doors for people . I hope it catches on with other clubs

Sure, just when we think we got our divisions down pat...out comes an eight shot revolver.:D Just means your fingers will freeze faster...jeez and speedloaders to boot!

If we have a class for it, I'll get a .22 top-end for my G19. But we won't be doing it. For starters, the most common .22lr pistol (Ruger Mk I/II/III) isn't going to work well in a concealment holster. And where will you get the .22Magazine pouches?

I agree.

After the initial outlay for equipment, the biggest cost is ammo. For some this can get pretty pricey. I'd like to see more 'official' shooting competitions add a rimfire component to the scene.

How many more people would shoot regularly and often, if it only cost them a couple of bucks?

I've always though the best way in increase participation -and by extension, gun use and ownership- was to make it as accessible as humanly possible. This includes cost of participating.

For whats its worth....

You will note from the start this is all about having fun. Our idpa shoots will accomdate your Glock Conversion in cdp aka conversion defensive pistol.

Most guys with .22 pistols don't have holsters for them let alone mag holders. To accodate this shooters without holsters will start from the low ready position and start 3 seconds down. The boys in Washington have used this and it seems to work out quite fair. Again, because a lot of shooters won't have three mags for their guns stages will be designed to reduce reloads to one mag change at most. If you don't have mag holders just put your mags in your coat/vest pocket.

As an aside while we are going with three divisions right now Washington is lumping all pistols into one division - we will likely follow. They also only use the head portion of the target while we will be using half the body. We will compare notes after a few shoots and come to a common ground. The main concern here is whether or not searching for the small .22 holes for body shots is worth the effort or not.

Hop on a plane and come on up. OUr shoot goes Dec. 16th. entrey fee is $5.00 and 1st prize is printout with your name on it. Win and your name will be on the top of the list. Coffee is free.

At our club we have never had anyone approach us about useing a .22 in CDP, aka conversion defensive pistol, but really Canadian Defensive Pistol. If they did and had the proper holster and and mag pouch that would securly hold them, or loaders for a revovler, I would have no problem with that.

I wanted to use a .22 for IDPA but I was told it was a 9mm minimum so its taking a long time for me to put a kit together Cost wize.
What about Mosquito's or Walther p22's? they come with holsters too dont they ?

'Funny this should come up as I'm currently concidering buying one of the Advantage Arms .22lr conversion kits for my G17
I have a Ruger MkII, but as acrashb says... 'Not exactly a "defensive" pistol. At least not in shape and size...If I could find speed loaders for my .22 revolver.... maybe?

Keep in mind that there are no rules when it comes to fun matches... Your IDPA/CDP/ODPL rulebook might have its particular set of rules, but... there's nothing wrong with organizing a match with its own set of rules to encourage guys to dust off their oddball or seldom used guns and have some fun...
One of these days I'm gonna shoot a match with my .32 walther PP... Just for ####z and giggles:)

If you don't have a holster then we start from the low ready position with a 3 second penalty. The boys in Washington have used this method and it seems to work out fairly for everyone. If you don;t have mag holders then use your pocket.

The idea up here is to be able to shoot fun matches in the winter without the need to chase brass in the snow and wet. We use the terms idap vs IDPA and cdp vs CDP to differentiate the two competitions. One is center fire and the other is rimfire.

CDP - Custom Defensive Pistol (.45acp)
cdp - conversion defensive pistol
SSP - Stock Service Pistol 9MM +
ssp - stock service pistol, any .22LR pistol

To make it fair for everyone mags will be loaded to the limit of the smallest mag capacity that shows up for the match for each division. All division are shot from concealment vest or coat. And for the range nazis holsters can protrude below the bottom of the vest. Hell this is about having fun with your .22 pistols and revolvers. Nothing more. Also is a way to consume old targets from the center fire matches.

why would you guys limit other players who are accustomed to 10 round mag's because one person has a smaller capacity mag ? this just doesnt sound fair to me seeing as %90 of people train with the standard 10 rounds ? not having those extra 3 rounds would throw people off wouldn't it ?

i like the .22 idea, im going to pick up a kimber 22 along with my 9mm and it would be good to be able to use the 22 when my ammo budget is to low to be able to use the 9mm
