Thinking of getting into IDPA?
The Alberta Tactical Handgun League (ATHL) will be hosting an IDPA Familiarization & Skills Clinic on Sunday, April 20th at the MVMA range west of Olds, Alberta.
Topics covered will include:
Handgun basics (Load/Unload, drawing/re-holstering, sight alignment, trigger control, grip, stance)
IDPA rules basics(Divisions, scoring, equipment, etc)
IDPA Range Commands
IDPA reloads(slide-lock, 'Tactical' reload, Reload with Retention)
Shooting from Cover
Target engagement sequence(Tactical Priority/Tactical Sequence)
Movement
Malfunction clearing
(It's recommended that you familiarize yourself with the Rule Book before the clinic. It can be found at: http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf )
You'll need a servicable handgun (9mm/.38 Spl or larger), a concealment style holster (no cross-draw, 'small of back', drop leg or shoulder holsters), 3 magazines or 4 speed loaders/moon clips, mag/speed loader/moon clip pouches, a concealement garment (vest or jacket), eye and hearing protection and 150-200 rounds of ammo.
There will be a minimal fee. ($15-$20 to cover range fees/targets/tape, etc)
You can follow the clinic up with an IDPA match the following Sunday! (you don't have to be a member to shoot your first match)
