so i have been convinced to try IDPA for the first time this Sarurday !, i've seen the course lay out before, read up on it quite abit, and talked to a bunch of buddies at the club that shoot it !!!...I'm totally excited about it !!! I'm going to use my Norinco NP-40 (CZ 85 clone)(which i'm not totally sure what class it will put me in), borrowed a holster and mag holder from a guy at the club and have 4 mags for it. set up is tomorrow (friday), so i'm going to help and one of the guys doing the set-up said he will give me a live fire walk through , so as to know what to expect !!....CAN'T WAIT !. currently i've only shot buls-eye compteively, so this should be a hoot !, all the guys that i shoot with , that also shoot IDPA have been awesome, offering equipment to use, pointers, etc. !!..i'll let you know how i make out (probably suck badly, but just looking forward to the experience):D

P.S. : apperntly this time there are going to be moving targets (or so i'm told !!)

Don't you have to have a holster cert to compete?

In any case, I'm totally stoked to do this as well, the waiting game is really eggin on me though, between getting the gun, the equipment, the training, but mostly the ATT, its really disappointing.

I'll look forward to the update after the round, g'luck!

i asked about that (holster cert.), but was told not to worry about it (i'm not new to pistols), and have practiced with holster, but was not informed about holster cert., One of the guys putting it on is a guy i shoot with alot, and never mentioned it (knowing that i've never done it before), but we'll see, i may get there and not be permitted .

I know sometimes they'll give you a pass and let you shoot from the box, or a desk or whatever.

Is the course in Chatham? Or somewhere else?

the shoot is Chatham, and i was told to bring holster and mag holders. llike i said before though, i've shot with these same guys ALOT!, so maybe they are just looking the other way...I don't really know

Meh, its not important, I could probably do an informal shoot with some of the surrounding clubs before actually getting my holster cert, but I will probably end up getting the certification before my actual ATT (yep, its a long story).

I hope to be doing matches in June, the May ODPL match was cancelled

NP 40 should put you in ESP I believe.

Try to relax and have a great time. I was a bundle of nerves at my first match (ever) but the guys at the club were (and still are) great with the newbies.

Here's my advice (that I'm still trying to master). Don't worry too much about the time, worry more about your accuracy first. And above all, listen to the advice from the long in the tooth fellas...they know what they are talking about.

I showed everyone that I could make brass really fast my first time out and ended up with a "fabulous" 333 down.

Good luck and hope you have a great shoot!

thanks, and i really don't care how well i do the first time out, just looking forward to trying it. (any yes i've been told by just about everyone to ignore the clock and just shoot), there may be something to that !!LOL....but i can see it now...adrenaline pumping and just shooting....NOTE TO SELF...."SLOW DOWN AND BREATH!!!!"...HAHAHA

remember basic safety stuff,...finger off trigger until you are coming on to target. That is important. Dryfire and practice doing that.

LOL, this has been ingrained into me, even bulls-eye..when told to load..rather than having trigger finger along the barell (as apposed to in the gaurd), my trigger finger isn't even touching the gun (outstretched along the barell , but not touching), yeah i know , it may be weird , but it's just what i do, and its NO WHERE NEAR THE TRIGGER TILL I'M GOOD AND READY !!!LOL

the cz85 can be shoot in either ESP or SSP division.

if shooting in SSP he would hve to lower the hammer and start with the first shot double action..... most guys just pinch the hammer and lower it.

if he shoots ESP division he may start in single action mode with safety on.

What is the weight of the NP 40? Must make 39oz. I know the Tanfoglio 9MM guns are overweight for SSP - not sure on the .40cal with a lighter barrel.

I don't have the exact weight on hand, but I do remember being told they are too heavy for SSP.

(Keep in mind this was way back last year...I have trouble remembering what I had for lunch the day before :D )

Cheers

Well based upon the published weight the gun would be legal. I think it would be best to weight the gun in any event. It really isn't an issue at most club matches but for a sanctioned match you don't want to find you are at 40+ ounces. worst thing that can happen is you get bumpted to ESP.
