IDPA in Edmonton area?

The Alberta Tactical Handgun League tried to organize an indoor match at the Phoenix Indoor Range in Edmonton for last Sunday but we didn't have enough committed individuals to make it happen. (13 signed up and we needed 32 to make it economically viable)

We have almost a dozen members from the Edmonton area that regularly participate in our outdoor matches in Olds (Words Twice, Capt V and Banskopivo here on CGN to name a few). There was talk earlier in this thread of the range in Wildwood for IDPA matches and the fact that it's an hour west of Edmonton. Well, Olds is only a couple of hours south of Edmonton and we have well designed and run matches every 4th Sunday starting in April. (We even have a handful of members from the Lethbridge area. They drive almost 4 hours (each way) to participate in our matches!)

(Surf the threads in this forum to get an idea of the quality of matches we put on: http://forums.athl.org/viewforum.php?f=19&sid=a94e437bc1e2ca03f6a35df26b2526c4)

For the two years before starting up the Alberta Tactical Handgun League I used to drive 5+ hours (each way) to Bigfork Montana for their monthly IDPA matches. I did that gain experience in IDPA so that I had at least a clue on what to do when the time came to start ATHL.

I strongly encourage interested Edmontonians to come down and at least try an ATHL match (you don't have to be a member to compete in your first match). And for those individuals that may be motivated to start their own club in the Edmonton area, join ATHL, get some experience shooting matches, get certified as an IDPA Safety Officer at one of the courses we offer, and then go back and start your club. Your chances to make it a successful organization will be greatly increased.

PS: To sweeten the pot, if anyone in the Edmonton area can get a half dozen to a dozen interested individuals and a range for a day or two organized, I'll come to you and conduct an IDPA Familiarization & Skills clinic (see this thread for info on what this entails: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=309632)
