IDPA Intro

Chilliwack has exactly what you are looking for. There is an IDPA event on the first Sunday of every month, practices are held quite often, and they offer an Intro to IDPA course a couple of times a year. We have a great group that run a fantastic IDPA program, there is a Facebook page you can have a look at -CFGPA IDPA
Feel free to PM me for more info if you like, next match is May 05, you are welcome to come have a look

First step is to join IDPA. $40 U.S.

You don’t need to join right away. You’re allowed to try 3 matches as an Unclassified shooter at Chilliwack as a guest. Then you’ll have to join IDPA to continue shooting after that.

Edgy is spot on about the IDPA community here. A really awesome bunch of friendly folks. Mission is slowly getting into IDPA but Chilliwack is still where the action is at the moment.

Yeah, I don't know any IDPA club that would require the IDPA International membership fee up front. Here in NL we don't even ask for a match fee from the new guy(s) the first time around.

Unlike IPSC.
We do charge a match fee but sometimes, the MD will let a new onlooker shoot a single stage for fun.

We encourage anyone interested to just come out and watch. If you like what you see, make sure you have the proper gear, sign up at CFGPA-IDPA and you’ll be notified to match days so you can sign up and squad.
It used to be you could just show up and shoot but those days are long gone due to the popularity of the sport. All matches are sold out now. You don’t arrive to help set up or you leave early without a good reason, you may not shoot the next event ( at the discretion of the MD). Everyone chips in so we don’t appreciate lazy folks who just shoot and collect brass!

We don't have a big club here, but I appreciate the realities of having to deal with what you mention.

Do I need to be a member at chilliwack gun club if I just wanted to be involved in IDPA? Or can I just come and pay to do the IDPA training and matches?

OP: I'm an IPSC guy who met this fine group of folks just over a year ago. They are awesome people, and I've now joined IDPA and am having a great time shooting with them. Come visit at the Sunday, May 5th match, and see some stages being shot and ask questions. Come around 2-ish, if that works for you. You can see stages being shot, see how the squads work, ask questions, and help with tear down and ask more questions in that casual environment. If you're curious about other sports like 3-gun, IPSC, etc, there will be people to help explain all that stuff and what you need to do to get involved in those areas too.

One more thing: if you can make it out on May 5, you can see me and Still alive shooting different guns than normal. We're swapping gear. :) He's shooting my IPSC-tuned Shadow, and I'm shooting his Glock with crappy trigger and poor sights. Should be great for a laugh as I suffer from constant trigger freeze and wondering where my FSP is, and he's shooting shots too soon. Come for the laugh! hahahahahaha!

Hell, I’m ready to fly out from Ontario to see that...lol

TaLk to some of the guys and maybe watch a local club match. You need to make sure that your gun, belt, mag carrier and holster meet IDPA rules. Most common brand range kits will probably do, but I went through a few belts before I got things sorted. If your club uses an indoor range, get GOOD hearing protection.

I can see me setting the club record for hits on No Shoots with jimbo’s Shadow and the 2lb let off!

Yeah, OP, come out and visit. Identify yourself to us and you might even get a bag of edgy’s famous kettle corn!
Lol, I just hope you don't come out of the match as a raving Shadow fanboy!!!! :)
Are you going to run it cocked and locked,, and remember that safety,,, or is it da/sa all day!
OP,, as jimbo14 stated, come on out and have a look, I don't think you will regret it!
PS- don't be taking trailskinpat's record for no shoots Still alive,,,it's the only thing he has to brag about :)

Not a chance will I convert to a Shadow! I’ll run it hammer down to compete in SSP. Not something that I’ve really practiced so it’ll be interesting! Watch me go bang and DQ again!!!

And I’d rather Pat’s record stay intact also.....

lol!

DA/SA is the way to go with this gun. It has a flush safety so trying to flick it off on the draw would suck. :)

Innavedaw: you can stay at my place if you fly out here. I'll pick up your food and beer tabs too. lol!
