IDPA noob question

Yes, the grips are legal as long as they are not weigted. The Aluminum grips made thinner which is a feature and usually lighter.

Thanks, I am just anticipating some issues with reaching the mag release that a slightly thinner grip would help with.

Can you switch the mag release from one side to another on your sig? I am right handed and I have switched my CZ's over to the right side and use my trigger finger to release the mag. Faster for me with the added advantage of keeping the gun pointed generally at the target. Not for everybody but it sure works for me.

Sorry but extended mag releases are illegal for IDPA except where noted. See pages 18 through 24 of the current rule book.

Sorry, I guess I failed to mention, I am shooting a G17 with an extended mag release.

I think I am in the clear because they are a standard feature of the G34/35

Not quite accurate. As long as the replacement grips don't weigh more than 2 oz. more than the factory grips, then you're good to go.

Not quite accurate:confused:

It does not matter what the grips weigh as long as the gun with unloaded mag inserted fits in the box and is not heavier than the weight allowed for it's class

Mike Oxlong

see above post regarding weighted grips. The Aluminum grips will be fine. I don't know of any club that weighs grips and I would not expect MD's to know the weight of every factory grip for every pistol either. The thin aluminum grips are quite popular and are seen on a variety of pistols at most large matches.

Dave Mike Oxlong is referring to the definition of a weighted grip - see Glossary page 82 of the rule book.

Thank god for gunnutz! I have read the IDPA handbook, but it was not very specific about modifications. I have not seen the rule book yet, just the 17 page handbook.

Next question, is there a trophy for this sport and if so how much room should
I clear from my trophy case?

Kidding of course, thanks again for all the helpful info.
