Okay where to start... IDPA.
I have two pistols, a drop leg holster for both, 5 mags for the Colt Series 70 1911 and 3 for the Taurus 9mm. Tactical 870 pump. No carbine or tactical rifle.
What does it stand for?
What do I need to enter matches?
Jamie ran a black badge course but I missed it unfortunatly, what is it?
What do you do?
Where do you do it?

Any other info is great.
 
You will likely need a Black Badge holster qualification to shoot a hand gun at any IDPA (or IPSC) match.

The Black Badge course is an IPSC course run over a weekend that teaches you safe handling with a holster and some basic pratical pistol shooting skills.

You will then have tried an IPDA or IPSC pistol match before you get to a 3-gun match.

My club runs regular practical shotgun and rifle matches. With a long gun the Black Badge course is not required as long as you have an RO (range officer) taking you through.

For a cheap rifle ($160) you can start with an SKS. ARs cost upwards of 10 times the cost.

The 870 is a great shotgun. You will want a 2 or 3 round extension for it.

Are the mags for the Colt 8 round or 10 round?

You will need a belt holster for either. The Uncle Mike Kydex variety can be had for $30

I have the 870 with a 3 shot extension, and the colt mags I have are all 7 shots. The 3 mags for the Taurus are 10 shots. I guess I need to pick up a decent rifle somewhere and a belt holster.
 
idpaotario.com will allow you to shoot with either a BB or PPC credentials...
As well, any police or otherwise "trained" shooters are welcome.
